There are alternate suits that certain characters (Batman, Robin, Cyborg, Lex Luthor, and The Joker) can wear that will modify their abilities. These suits are unlocked by naturally progessing through the storyline and each are worn by specific character(s).

Progress through the storyline.

Defeat Mr. Freeze at the start of Hub Visit 5.
Martian Manhunter:
Get the 'Restore the Com Link' objective in Hub Visit 2.
Plastic Man:
Defeat Mr. Freeze at the start of Hub Visit 5.
Robin (Lex Luthor Disguise):
Start level 12.

Progress through the storyline.
