this is not a cheat, but a reconmendation, grab as many new world providences as possible, but only develop a few tiles, this discourages oldworld powers attacking you
another hint: select countries where roads can be the main form of transport, because cargo ships use up uints of peasants that could be used for industrial and militant purposes
