American McGee's Alice

American McGee's Alice

When Alice answers a distressed summons to return to Wonderland, she barely recognizes the befouled setting. From the fungal rot of the Mushroom Forest to the infernal chemistry of the Mad Hatter's Domain and beyond, Wonderland festers to its core.

Undaunted by the diseased ambiance, cavernous confusion, and mortal danger that surround her, Alice must undo the chaos. Equipped with courage, a keen appetite for the bizarre, and a lethal array of transmogrified toys, she'll penetrate the strongholds of her enemies, confront the forces of evil, and put the wicked Queen of Hearts in her place.

This is not a re-telling of the old Alice in Wonderland stories. It's an all new Alice adventure, and can be considered a third chapter in her story. It takes place after Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, and although it features many characters and places from those stories, things have definitely taken a turn for the worst in Alice's childhood dreamland...

Created by renowned level designer American McGee--his impressive list of credits includes levels design for Doom II and the Quake series.

American McGee lasted a scant 3 months in tech support at Id Software, before jumping into the role of game designer. His contributions to the best-selling Quake and Doom franchises range from sound effects to programming, but American is best known for designing some of the most innovative, intricate and vividly detailed levels in the first person POV category.

American McGee's Alice is being developed by Rogue Entertainment. This Dallas-based studio produced the highly acclaimed Quake II add-on Ground Zero, as well as the Quake pack Dissolution of Eternity. Working closely with American, these 3D action gaming experts are creating characters and environments that are more detailed and alive than anything seen before on the PC.

Alice will be released sometime during Fall 2000. The exact date will depend on whether they can keep the Jabberwocky from chewing on the artists, the Mad Hatter from torturing the programmers (except for a couple who actually enjoy it...), and several other similarly distracting events that they're not currently at liberty to divulge. We'll be sure to keep you up to date on their progress, so keep checking back for the latest information.
