I upgraded my pentium I 200mhz comp to a 550 athelon about 4 months ago. Even 4 months ago the upgrade only cost me $300. Yeah my neighbor payed about $600 to upgrade to an intel pentium 3 500. it's slightly more stable but i don't believe it was worth the money. with the extra cash i saved by using an AMD i can afford more ram, and a 550 athelon with 192 ram is better than any 500 pent.3 with 64 ram

Let me settle this debate. The AMD athlon processor is far superior to the pentium III and the pentium IV. The early benchmarks have showed the PIV to be slower then the PIII and athlon.If you really want pentium III speed then just buy an amd 750 mhz duron processor. It's The low end version of the athlon but still has a 200 mhz bus and only costs $189 for a 750 mhz chip. The Duron outperforms the 66 mhz bus celeron by 30%I am very glad Amd is around so we can have fast machines at a fair price. Intel is failing in the chip sector and they are trying to move into the internet applience area. It looks like in a few years Amd will be the majority supplier of chips. I'm waiting on the 32/64 bit Amd 2ghz 8th generation sledgehammer, due out in late 2001. That is going to be a machine sent from the gods.Sorry to burst your bubble but Amd is far superior then intel. Intels products are old and slow.

Ive had a P1, P2 and an AMD K6-2 and now a P3. Someone in my family has a Athlon and my P3 kicks its ass, its only a 450 overclocked to 504mhz but it ****s all over the Athlon 750mhz. ......So longggggg AMD who does us so wrongggggg, we dont wanna go onnnnnn living in this world with you.......

**** this im waiting till the 1GHz goes down to 10$. i got a 233P with mmx. for 10$ and im not going to pay all that ****ing money to see a 3x faster cpu. in one year. is sucks to pay all that money then the next day have it go down like 100$. it happens to games too like fightforce (gay game) i got it for 50$ thing the next ****ing DAY it went to 20$. all im saying is **** 700$ for 1GHz when they make a new one the price goes down a lot. and also who needs a ghz all most all games run great on a 400p with a 3d card.

Hell, intel had to recall their 1.13 ghz chip because they don't know how to build them. Wake up and smell the coffee and realize that Intel is second fiddle and AMD is a first class company that know how to make real processors. They don't recall theirs and they don't paper launch any either. Good luck with your Pentium chips, just hold off for a while before you buy one, just in case Intel has to recall them!
