SLI King of the Benchmarks

In order to showcase its new nForce 4 SLI chipset, nVidia has released information which demonstrates how much, in nVidia's favor, SLI has tipped the performance scales. The top systems listed on FutureMark's 3DMark05 performance league tables are all based on NVIDIA SLI technology. NVIDIA SLI-powered systems currently hold the top 20 positions on the 3DMark05 Hall of Fame.

Many users are quick to claim that SLI is a gimmick setup which involves two, top of the line graphics boards working in unison. Very few people will be willing to invest the amount of money needed to obtain an SLI system, especially when considering the very small number of games that actually support it. Others will claim that such an investment, when new boards are expected by fall this year, would be foolish as we are not quite sure of the difference in performance between current and next generation chips. nVidia cannot really deny any of those claims but it doesn't really want to. The fact remains that it is currently the king of the benchmarks and that counts for something.

Although ATI is always eager to stress that one-on-one, its products perform just as well, if not better, than its rivals, it is apparent that the lack of 3DMark Top 20 spots for its products is having an effect. The recently organised gathering of overclockers in Texas, in an attempt to make a dent in nVidia's benchmark supremacy and its subsequent failure to produce the goods is a sign that although they are just numbers, 3DMark scores do mean something to the companies.

Taking the top spot on the 3DMark05 Hall of Fame is an NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Series SLI-powered system scoring a record-setting 12,280 marks, using an NVIDIA nForce 4 SLI-based motherboard. For the full Hall of Fame results, follow the download tab above.

@ nutshell, HL2 is ATI-Biased on purpose as well because Valve partnered up with ATI. There is nothing wrong with competition because it favors the consumers. Take it from me, I maybe one cheap, old bitch, but lower prices are a good thing.

I believe Microsoft can buy out Nvidia 100 times. If Nvidia is the best it should show on the stock market but it shows them in 3rd place. Microsoft kicked them off the Xbox project because ATI has better GPU's. PS3 is all talk right now. What is Nvidia going to give PS3 SLI GPU's, the R520 is 3x more power than one 6800ultra. The funniest thing is how Nvidia f**ked up with the NV30 and canned it. Oh buy the way Microsoft could also buy out sony too. I believe Microsoft is paying a lot more to ATI than Sony to Nvidia.

The very same benchmarks Nvidia dissmissed as "useless" when the 5800 and 5900 were released and they failed to beat ATI cards in those tests. Have we not learned from the past!!!???? These benchmarks do not in any way relate to actual real world game play! Never has. These bench tests are used for OEM's. Reason why they are total b.s. now is the fact that they are so easy to optimize drivers for and customize your chips for. Just look at the recent past with Nvidia and the FX line and all the cheating. Now Nvidia wants to claim this?? If ATI claims legitimate feedback for these benchmarks, then they are morons also. Once the cheating was found out, it was over for me and all these tests. It comes to game play. Plain and simple. And from the tests, ATI still wins in alomst all of them. sli CANNOT RUN MOST GAMES. It runs ALL the benchtests though. LMAO. Gee, i wonder why. People. Nvidiots and ATI fanatics alike. Tell me if you can play 3dmarks or AquaMarks as a 1st or 3rd person shooter? If you can, then i will spend $1200US on a SLI setup.....

"nVidia still has the most stablest card and that is undeniable.period"Hmmm. The FX series were stable? RIGHTTTTTT. The new SLI setup is STABLE????? Oh god. Please. Major stability issues. Major. And drivers for Nvidia that only ocme out 4-5 months....Please. The new Forceware drivers are riddled with issues..like all other GPU companies like ATI. The major difference. Ati updates monthly so if you have issues, they are solved in a short period of time. If Nvidia has driver issues, oh well, you wait until the next driver release from them. And that is 4-5 months later! How times have changed. It was ATI who had the driver problems. Now it's Nvidia. Especially with regards to SLI and driver profiles. Oh the issues with those. If you can even get it to run 80% of the time without crashing....

Just because Nvidia has come out with SLI doesn't mean they are at the top spot, all it shows is that they need two cards to take out one X850XT PE. Nvidia always brings out shit before the world is ready for it. How many have SLI probably less than 2%. Man I am glad that ATI will crush Nvidia this year like the last and the year before that etc. Go to the Inquirer.net and look for the X800XL article it will tell you that it has taken over the mid-stream segments as Captain has pointed out.

Here are some reviews on the XL800...XT850...6800 ULTRA...6800GT.[url removed] put, if you are into more games that are DX9 based, ATI is for you. If you are into DOOM3 and open Gl, Nvidia is for you. At this time as in the past, there are about 5-1 DX9 games out on the market comapared to OpenGl games.However, both comapanies put out great cards that are comparable in almost every sense. Price should be your chossing factor as PS3.0 for Nvidia cards offer nothing really at this time. FarCry results are proof of this as ATI cards run the game faster even with the 1.3 patch. And since PS3.0 is a D3D protocol, don't expect to see it in OpenGl gaming...

realistic, those 20 spots are MOSTLY BENCHMARKS!!!!! When SLI starts to play the majority of games like those benchmarks, then i will be sold on it. Benchmarks mean nothing as seen in the past. Too easy to optimize for to impress OEM's. And they do not offer real game performance at all. If you can't see that, then you need help.
