Nvidia's secret Crush

The chipset is rumoured to be in development at Nvidia, initially for the Athlon or Duron. As soon as Nvidia gets a licensing deal with Intel, it will begin work on a chipset for the PIII and Celeron.

The spec of the as yet unconfirmed chipset, which would be Nvidia's first, looks like this:

DDR Memory (two versions to be implemented - but we'll discuss that later)
Socket-A support, 266Mhz bus (a P!!! version is in the planning stages)
Integrated GeForce2 MX 3D core
4x AGP
New MCP-1 SouthBridge to be used

The Crush is basically NVIDIA's first foray into the chipset arena. It looks to be a really cutting-edge design - and I'm sure it'll appeal to a wide spectrum of the PC enthusiast market.

There are two versions of the 'board that will become available - one will have a 64-bit memory bus, and the other will use a 128-bit pathway. Both will be able to use either PC1600 (200Mhz) DDR memory or PC2100 (266Mhz) RAM - although the 128-bit version will require you to have your DIMMs arranged in pairs (a'la the old EDO way).

The motherboard will also have an on-board GeForce2MX controller, although details of it's implementation are unavailable - for example, whether it will utilize shared or dedicated memory, the amount of RAM it has (if it does have it's own dedicated set), whether or not it supports Twin-View and also the core clock speed. There are rumors that future versions of Crush will utilize an NV17 core, although this can't be confirmed at the present time.

Of course - the GeForce2 MX on-board can be disabled by simply using an AGP card in the provided slot. On the other hand, if you have a PCI video card you might even be able to use a twin monitor configuration!

Crush will be available sometime around April~May of 2001. NVIDIA will probably introduce this chipset either at the end of this month, or at the beginning of December.

Nvidia's secret Crush

Hey u PC fans. I'm not a fan of the PS 2 but many of the developers are turing to the consols. So u will soon have a drought of games! Maybe the PC will over power the PS 2, game cube and X box - but with no good games to play on it on what the point!?!?

Nvidia's secret Crush

Smith, don't be so stupid. The PS2 is the worst piece of consol crap since the release of the Saturn. The Game Cube and X-Box won't replace the PC for one simple reason:- they are consoles. And you know, they'res absoutley no point in the X-Box because that IS a PC, just not upgradable, and the Game Cube doesn't have DTP and Word Processing packages on it. The PC will always have the best games, but the games consoles will always be one step behind.

Nvidia is probably one of the best 3d accelarator makers ever. They are really cheap cards with great performance. The only one which is better is VooDoo but they are expensive but they have 3dfx glide

Nvidia's secret Crush

I still know some awesome companies who will forever remain loyal to PC. Take EA(creators of all sport games ,and also of my loved and charished Final Fantasy Series) and LucasArts (Remember Monkey Island, it never came on any Console). I give assurance to all PC lovers that PC is gonna live forever, games gonna come on it no matter what, if only Capcom listens.........

Nvidia's secret Crush

PCs will allways reign supreme. PC sale always slup around the time new consoles are released but in a years time the PS2 will look antique by pc standards and all those console heads wil come crawling back for afew more years until they can get their new console fix

Nvidia's secret Crush

Well, its all about what you want...If your just out for gaming then a console is the right choice, but if you want to do much more than just gaming and still have the oportunity to play games with the same "good loking" graphics and speed then a pc os the choice.../Where did you go yesterday?

Nvidia's secret Crush

By the way, you are all very open mindedNOT!!!I mean, the pc can't die out and when they release a new console its better but sofar the pc persuit for better technology is faster so they are kinda equaland thats that...

Nvidia's secret Crush

I think the Cube will be better bought than the PSX2. Itll be cheaper to buy than the Playstation2. (it costs 869DM (i think almost 1700$)and the pc will never dieout. even though a console may have better grafix at the moment, the pc will do it even better (emulators...)

Nvidia's secret Crush

What you all fail to realize is that PCs have always been more powerful then consoles....The problem, though, is that PC game programmers can't utilize all the power because they have to worry about Legacy support... So they games often look less impressive on PC because of developers made games for the newest PCs they'd shut out the majority of PC users (who haven't been upgrading). That's why the Xbox is actually a good thing, finally PC developers can make games with Today's technology and not worry about legacy support.

one problem with a onboard geforce is that..if the memorys shared..its gonna be a bugger to play games unlees you have 128 as a minimum!! and think do you really wanot your montherboard to handle yet more hardwear? i had a modem, sound, gpu all in one board..its blew within 3 weeks do to the influx of data....the xbox is a good idea i agree, it will be able to take the gaming looks to another high standard...the cube im not so sure..didnt they say that the n64 would cause the pc to die out? look at it now..no more than mastersystem (~crap~)and the playstation, whats that all about? i hope they know what there doing with this onboard gpu....

The Lord of Graphics Engines, John Carmack himself said it best: "(The) Xbox only sounds impressive because it is being talked about a year and a half before it's launch. With one exception, a hardcore PC gamer's system in that timeframe will be superior in every way (at a higher price point).I do think that the unified memory architecture is a Good Thing. High end graphics cards have so much more memory bandwidth than the primary memory subsystem that it makes a lot of sense to just get rid of the main system and let the CPU leech off of the graphics memory. When the graphics system is busy, they will contend over the memory a bit, but in idle conditions the CPU should actually get more memory bandwidth than even the highest end server configuration with standard components. There are issues with not being able to just plug in SIMMs to a 200mhz DDR memory system, but for a fixed memory system, it should work out great."Check out the full interview: [url removed]

AMD's Suck? What are you on about. I have a Athlon 700 overclocked to 1000 and the temp never goes over 30c. My friend has a P3 700 and he can only get to 900 and the temp reaches 50c at some points depending on what he is doing. Also i get a highter mark in most cpu tests that both of us has run.
