Nokia announced it has today filed a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that Apple infringes Nokia patents in virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players, and computers.
The seven Nokia patents in this complaint relate to Nokia's innovations which the company claims to be used by Apple to create key features in its products in the area of user interface, as well as camera, antenna and power management technologies.
"Nokia has been the leading developer of many key technologies in small electronic devices" said Paul Melin, General Manager, Patent Licensing at Nokia. "This action is about protecting the results of such pioneering development. While our litigation in Delaware is about Apple's attempt to free-ride on the back of Nokia investment in wireless standards, the ITC case filed today is about Apple's practice of building its business on Nokia's proprietary innovation."

It seems like Nokia isn't
It seems like Nokia isn't happy with Apple because they are suing Apple for the second time in two years. Last year it was for a patent violation on Nokia's cell phones, this year it is for the 3G technology Apple uses. The Nokia Apple lawsuits on patent infringement are becoming every day news stories they happen so much. What I am more interested in learning is what will happen to the consumers if one company or the other wins. Will it cause changes with the customers who have acquired either company's products? For instance, if Apple looses, will they still be developing books for the iPad that customers spent hundreds of dollars obtaining? I will absolutely be following this case.

... Maybe if Nokia made phones that were built to last more than six months and let go of their 20-year old design conventions they wouldn't be losing out to a device designed by a bathroom designer and have to whinge to the courts to make a profit? Just sayin'

Anonymous,What you're saying is bit rubbish, there are bad phones and good phones, Nokia makes both. The fact is Nokia indeed pioneered a lot of early mobile phone technology, regardless if you think they are bad. Apple are taking the piece of the pie without doing any of the hard yards, they are just integrating all existing technologies into a single product.I'm surprised nobody else has sued them.
