3,000 Banned in Guild Wars 2 For Karma Weapon Exploit

3,000 players have been perma-banned in Guild Wars 2, after they were found by ArenaNet to have exploited mispriced weapons to make a killing selling them on and by using them to get high level gear much more easily than was originally intended.

The whole thing was outlined by lead producer at Arenanet, Chris Whiteside in a reddit post: "Today we banned a number of players for exploiting Guild Wars 2. We take our community and the integrity of the game very seriously, and want to be clear that intentionally exploiting the game is unacceptable. The players we banned were certainly intentionally and repeatedly exploiting a bug in the game. We intended to send a very clear message that exploiting the game in this way will not be tolerated, and we believe this message now has been well understood."

However, Mr Whiteside explained that ArenaNet understands that since this is the first exploit that's appeared in the game, people could be forgiven for thinking they'd just found a little loophole, instead of a bug. A way of advancing quickly, without breaking the game. Evidently that's not the case, but to show that it's at least a little understanding of these excuses, ArenaNet is offering a way out. "Thus, just this once, we will offer to convert permanent bans to 72-hour suspensions. Should those involved want to accept this offer of reinstatement, contact us on our support website--support.guildwars2.com—and submit a ticket through the "Ask a Question" tab," explained Whiteside.

Once the 72 hour suspension is up, ArenaNet will be monitoring players to make sure they give up their ill gotten gains. If they don't, the permanent ban will be reintroduced.

Whiteside closed the post by saying that, "This is a first and final warning. Moving forward, please make sure you that when you see an exploitable part of the game, you report it and do not attempt to benefit from it."

At the end of the day, unless you want to see the economy of the game go to shit you have to respect the idea of perma banning people who are doing things like this. I actually think they have gone to some great length to address issues from GW1, to counter act gold sellers they allow you to buy gems and then exchange them for in game cash, and the Black Lion Market is a great answer to those days of having to carefully watch for scams when doing person to person deals. As for removing gems you've already bought, I will have to see it done before I get angry about it. In the end, if you don't like it , go play something else.

My subject says it all. What do you think will happen when you glitch in a game or do something you know you shouldn't be doing. The game clearly says that exploiting the game will result in punishment. Seriously retards don't read shit apparently. Its like this for every game, thinking that you can get away with it while GMs are always on and actually play. Lol stupidity.

3000 banned? Arena never ceases to amaze me I guess they never run out of fake numbers for scare ware! I guess they got bored of banning a 100,000 accounts on GW1, better question is why implement shit that is bound to be abused?!

Actually there was no killing to be made. Trading posts were not working the ingame mail system that is used to trade between players is down. The only way to sell said items at the time was to vendor them and they are so worthless there is no point in even doing that. You will find that most people doing it were experimenting and the others that were to take advantage of it would have had to wait until the other services I mentioned came back online. The devs could have by then taken the weapons gained and removed all the players Karma and given them a temp ban. But the devs have chosen to react this way. There are many other things I can question like the fact that in the EULA they have said that if you spend real money on Gems they reserve the right to take or add gems to your total. Them removing gems from your account that you have paid for is tantamount to stealing regardless of the reason. You have paid for it they can't do that, It's like car company comming back to you 12 months after buying a car and saying well were gonna take back 2 wheels and a door because we feel like it. And then if you have the unfortunate mistake of buying something and lag giving you the impression that you haven't bought said Item and you click on it again and nothing hapens then close the gem shop window and then open it again later to find that you have had your gems removed and then have 2 of said item, you then have the gaul to ask for a refund of the gems and them taking away that one extra Item they can (and most probably will by their past actions) Ban your account permenatly. So I have to ask is this right by the company to do this and treat their paying customers like this?

Selling THOSE items to the vendors wasn't crap. The idea is that they were cheap Karma-wise, then could be sold for THOUSANDS of their initial value in coin to vendors. Odds are high it was a simple number-based mathematical glitch, but it's fixed anyway.

That's way too much.. they

That's way too much.. they didn't install a hack or anything.. they toke advantage of a bug. I just hope the devs of DAYZ would be half that severe.. while thousands of retarded handicapped-players clearly use hacks, not game bugs, to spawn near random people, killing, freezing, looting them.. all this without any perma-ban.

I think this is ass backwards

I think this is ass backwards.... this I think will not stop the profiteers from doing their thing, instead it will only hurt the little guy..... lets say "horse radish" the 1337 hax0r finds a exploit and starts profiting off it after a while they get banned.... but wait "horse radish" is 1337 enough to understand at most they blocked his ip and cd key or likes; this means, if they got enough money out of the prev exploit this does nothing, they buy a new cd and change ip(maybe call up the isp) and continue on their merry way....
