While many people have been worried that with the Disney buyout of Lucasfilm, that the Star Wars movie franchise will be changed forever, others have held fears over the development of third person action adventure game, Star Wars: 1313. However it has now been confirmed that the game will continue on schedule.
IGN managed to get a statement from LucasArts about future game developments, and received the following statement:
"For the time being all projects are business as usual. We are excited about all the possibilities that Disney brings."
While it doesn't specifically name Star Wars: 1313 or the rumoured Star Wars: Frontline Assault, it seems to suggest that for now at least, the project is safe. Disney also clearly has a lot of spare cash at the moment, with its over $2 billion acquisition of Lucasfilms, so it seems likely that many projects will get a nice bump in budget to help speed them along. The company will certainly want as many Disney backed Star Wars projects as it can to legitimise the deal before the next part of the saga appears in cinemas in 2015.
CEO at Disney Interactive has also been noted as saying the company would take a more dedicated approach to social and mobile gaming, as opposed to console. So we could see some new developments in that market with the Star Wars franchise.
This development is certainly a big one, whether you're a fan of it or not. We've heard people saying that the buyout will ruin Star Wars, while others are pleased that we'll finally see the promised 7th, 8th and 9th movies which George Lucas talked about during the initial run of Star Wars films. Sound off below and let us know what you think.
