War Z Producer Titov Apologises In Wake Of Gamer Outcry

The War Z

The War Z, a zombie survival MMO that shares more than a passing resemblance with insanely popular ARMA II modification, DayZ, has been plagued with issues since before its release and they've continued well after. Now, in hopes of assuaging some of the hate he, his company and his game have received recently, Sergey Titov, one of developer Hammerpoint's most vocal producers, has stepped forward to apologize.

While there were calls of "ripoff" before The War Z was even released, when it finally was, the problems got far worse. Gamers noticed that many features on the Steam page simply didn't exist in the game world itself. Server player counts were half what they were claimed to be. Similarly the environment players could actually move around in was a fraction of what Hammerpoint said it was. The skill system that was supposed to be in the "foundation" release still hasn't surfaced either.

Understandably gamers got mad and with huge numbers of bugs in the game, as well as shoddy textures and mapping, it was time someone stepped forward and took some blame.

"I need to admit that we failed to effectively communicate some of our plans and actions to both our existing players and to our new prospective player," said Titov in a message to gamers.

"This failure to communicate resulted in some very negative feedback from some members of our community, but while it might be easy to label them as 'haters' or some other dismissive term, in all honesty this is my fault."

It's not quite clear if Titov is also apologizing for claiming that gamers merely misinterpreted the description for the game which suggested so many features that have yet to materialize.

The full letter is published over at VG247 where he repeatedly apologizes. However, judging from the comment section, it's not going down well.

"At the end my arrogance led us to the moment, when all those small things finally caught up and created a “perfect storm” that affected all of our community members. For that I’m truly sorry and apologize to all of our community as well as the larger PC gaming community that is not yet playing The War Z."

The whole "saga" of The War Z and its release, has led the creation of a website dedicated to its failings. lists all the faults and screw ups if you fancy a laugh at Hammerpoint's expense.

So, with an apology under his belt, does Titov deserve forgiveness? Are you guys any more likely to buy The War Z now? Let us know.

War Z

Game isnt RELEASED YET, Tard reviewer and TARD Readers. War Z is ALpha/BETA, while the 'Foundation Release' is a 'Release' but hte game isnt FULLY RELEASED. IDIOTS.

Yes

Of course, Molyneux is renowned for overstating his titles features, you'll find the outcry against that in the comments section of any article about him, you probably won't find it in the comments for this article for obvious reasons. Diablo 3 was way overstated too, but I wouldn't come to this article looking for that either.

Meh

Dayz is a mod, and not a very good one, the community within the game itself is sparse, no option to save status of your character, and the game overall feels 90's. Ppl give crap to a real game creator because they think it copies something they like, well guess what, Dayz copied Resident Evil, so get over it. Most games today are all about the same anyways so quit ur bitching, and embrace something that could improve on what you like instead of trying to smash everything new that comes along, or nothing great will ever come out.

Really?

My DayZ character saves just fine, my DayZgame doesn't resemble resident evil in any way except in the existence of zombies within the game world, the devs of WarZ misrepresenrted the features available in the game and it is plagued with crippling bugs, have you even tried either? Seems like you're just hating on the haters without having any personal experience.

WarZ is a shoddy piece of

WarZ is a shoddy piece of crap that could have been done better by an independent firm and has already been done better by the group behind DayZ (best reason to pickup Arma II I've ever heard). I hope the company behind this pile of poor quality textures and non-existent features goes bankrupt, company offices burn to the ground and dev team are all raped in the face by large dogs.

devs don`t get it........sad

anytime a dev lies to gamers, it is a sad day for gamer/developer relations. he flat out lied......purposefully telling enthusiastic fans about features in War Z that never existed to begin with. does he deserve forgiveness? yes, we should forgive the lying bastard. does he deserve another shot? absolutely not. we are the gamers. we get lied to all the time by devs. devs should realize that without the gamers, they would have nothing. maybe show gamers more respect. without the gamers, devs would be working at taco bell or burger king just to have enough gas money for their cars. most importantly, we are more than just gamers. we are, for the most part, hard working people who are just trying to get by. nothing feels worse than finding out that that "awesome game" you paid 60 bucks for, is really a piece of crap.
