Microsoft Surface Tablet Has just 23GB Free Space in 64GB Model

Surface Pro

Despite advertising itself as a 64GB storage model, Microsoft's Surface Pro tablet actually comes with just 23GB of free space, because there's so many bloated apps installed along with the giant Windows 8 operating system. In total, the tablet's OS takes up over 20GB, while the sheer number of apps, recovery partitions, and other junk taking up a further 20GB+, leaving you with not much more than a third of the advertised storage capacity.

This model is due to launch next week, with a price tag of $899. If you want to up your available storage to an advertised 128GB (usable 83GB), then you'll need to spend 100 bucks more. Whichever one you buy though, you'll get the full Windows 8 experience, rather than the traditional Windows RT for tablets, which trims the fat to free up some extra space.

Microsoft has suggested that if buyers want more room, then they should delete the recovery partition and replace it with a bootable backup USB. IE: Pay for more storage yourself.

You can also get Touch and Type keyboard covers should you find typing on a touchscreen difficult. Those will set you back another $120 according to Eurogamer.

You sure about that?

Windows 8 blows... worst OS I've ever used and I have tried them all. Who ever thought that Windows should be a fucking Kindle needs to lose their job, get herpes, and be black balled from computer anything... It's a freaking joke. Windows 8 crashed my computer two weeks into using it. Ran Vista Ultimate for years without a problem.

"Worst" OS when all that's

"Worst" OS when all that's different is that the START button takes up a whole screen. @ Win 7 I barely used the start button. Now, inside Win 8 desktop, Windows is just the same as Win 7, plus it has very nice Lower-Left right click shortcuts with all the critical places related to computer management and configuration. Have you seen the task manager? adventure a bit I'll guarantee you will be amazed. If you hate Win 8 it's simply because you are relunctant to learn.

dafuq?

Vista? You ran Vista for years? Are you insane? Windows 8 may be bad, but it aint no Vista - that's for sure. Maybe windows 8 crashed beacuae your hardware is old, it's probably very old if it ran Vista for years.

DUMBASS!

5.0? you think 5.0 is something special? it's probably nothing more than an old e-machine. to get a 5.0 you're likely running an old single-core Pentium 4 @ 2.8 ghz - 3.0 ghz cpu, plain old ddr ram (maybe 2 - 3 gb), and an old nvidia 7900 GTS with 256MB GDDR3. WOW! sweet specs............for 2006. and by the way, it's not called "performance profile". it's called the Windows Experience Index or Windows Assessment Score.

GREAT DAY ACTUALLY!

everyone is entitled to their own opinions. i gave both facts and my opinion. if someone is gonna brag about their system or ANYTHING in the forum, and i want to..........i'll reply and give an opinion. you can give yours to. infact, you just gave you're opinion about my previous post. now it's my turn. FUCK YOURSELF. you're the real troll here.

WOW! a fuckin' 10! amazing! i'd congratulate you, but i think you're a big fuckin' liar. Windows Experience Index (Windows Assessment Score) measures from 1.0 - 7.9. the highest score you could have achieved was a 7.9, yet you claim to have scored a 10. before jumping into a discusion about computers i would suggest knowing what you're talking about. or at least research abit before saying something. this way you will avoid almost certain scrutiny in the near future.
