Newel: Steam Box Gamepad Would Measure Player’s Arousal

Valve co-founder Gabe Newell revealed that Steam Box will reach the hands of some customers within the next three or four months.

"We're working with partners trying to nail down how fast we can make it," he told the BBC before estimating that the prototypes will be ready for shipment in less than four months.

"There are noise issues and heat issues and being able to [deal with] that while still offering a powerful enough gaming experience is the challenge in building it," Newel explained the reasons behind the hold up.

The Valve CEO then revealed that the company is looking into equipping the Steam Box gamepad with a heart-rate monitor.

"If you think of a game like Left For Dead - which was trying to put you into a sort of horror movie - if you don't change the experience of what the player is actually feeling then it stops being a horror game," he explained.

"So you need to actually be able to directly measure how aroused the player is - what their heart rate is, things like that - in order to offer them a new experience each time they play."

Maybe they could finally

Maybe they could finally finish the whole HALF LIFE thing they were doing... damn game is going to turn into another Duke Nukeum laughing stock of the industry, but the way they handle things I wouldn't be surprised to see a new Team Fortress before anything interesting.

Uh maybe not leave the game

Uh maybe not leave the game at a cliff hanger at episode 2? everyone was waiting for episode 3, and now it seems like the cunts are too busy making money sell hats on team fortress 2. So yea, it's not just me who's pissed; there's quite a few of us that are real peeved at valve cock blocking the story line.

nah

Duke nukem turned into what it did because it changed hands several times and people thought it was cancelled. Look at starcraft 2, it took 11 years to be released and it didn't turn into laughing stock.

I don't know where you've

I don't know where you've been, but Starcraft 2 was a laughing stock of its own demise. There hasn't been a good Blizzard IP in a very very long time. That's why I speculate their "Titan MMO" Project was something their company needed badly. A new IP to churn out since all the other games under Blizzards belt are really getting awful in quality.

heart rate monitor

it`s stupid ideas like these that can make your console sound like a laughing stock. what about a rectal thermometer ? hell, why not a penis wank attachment too for `cyber-sex`.
