Plants vs Zombies 2 is an iOS Exclusive

Plants vs Zombies 2

We've finally got more details on the sequel to PopCap's hugely popular Plants vs Zombies and unfortunately there's a lot of stuff you're not going to like. First up Android and Windows gamers, it's an iOS exclusive at launch. On top of that it's Free to Play with Microtransactions.

The Apple hardware only stipulation isn't likely to last long, as with Android being a much faster growing platform, it would make sense for PopCap and EA to port it over as soon as possible. However the PC version might take some time, since the game appears to be almost solely built around the touch interface.

It's not quite clear yet how microtransactions will work either. We've been told that you can play the whole way through the game without needing to pay for anything, but presumably it'll make quite a difference. I imagine it'll be Crazy Dave's store, retrofitted to take whatever currency the game is exchanging your real dollars for.

Senior producer Allen Murray said in a statement, "We’re confident that players will see the love and attention we’ve put into this game."

"We’ve created wild new ways to experience the plants and zombies you know and love as well as packing the game with tons of completely new content, and we’re still hard at work coming up with even more cool stuff that will keep Plants vs. Zombies 2 fresh and evolving in the months and years following launch."

The new CGI trailer for the game shows Crazy Dave heading off into the distant past and the future in his camper van, set to face off against ancient Egyptian zombies and a bunch of pirates too.

It's not quite clear how the plants are growing on the open deck of the ship without pots though.
