New Study Finds That Violent Videogames Make Teens Less Violent

A new study found that playing violent video games such as ‘Mortal Kombat,’ ‘Halo’ and ‘Grand Theft Auto’ actually had a slight calming effect on youths with attention deficit symptoms and helped to reduce their aggressive and bullying behavior.

The study was conducted by Christopher Ferguson of Stetson University and independent researcher Cheryl Olson from the US and it was published in Springer’s Journal of Youth and Adolescence.

Ferguson and Olson studied 377 American children, on average 13 years of age, from various ethnic groups who had clinically elevated attention deficit or depressive symptoms. The children were part of an existing large federally funded project that examines the effect of video game violence on youths.

Although Ferguson and Olson warned that their results could not be generalized to extreme cases such as mass homicides, they strongly advocate for a change in general perceptions about the influence of violent video games, even within the context of children with elevated mental health symptoms.

“We found no evidence that violent video games increase bullying or delinquent behavior among vulnerable youth with clinically elevated mental health symptoms,” Ferguson stressed. Regarding concerns about some young mass homicide perpetrators having played violent video games, Ferguson stated, “Statistically speaking it would actually be more unusual if a youth delinquent or shooter did not play violent video games, given that the majority of youth and young men play such games at least occasionally.”

I think he gets it.

I don't think he does. I think Timz got it. Basically said what I was going to say that, even though the results of the so called "study" turned out the way I'd want & illustrates facts that sensible people already inherently know, the very fact that sensible people already know this makes it pointless & ******* stupid. It's another waste of time, waste of money, inconclusive exercise spawned from seeds sewn by right-wing religious Neanderthals in politics and/or parental situations who not only need something to blame besides themselves but who are also so impossibly stupid that they assemble bogus ideas routinely from speculations floating around in their pea brains. Timz is basically saying that it's easier to deal with a thousand drooling retards than a single religious one. This sitch is analogous to things like the fruitless drug war where the same power hungry monsters are out to make the money, grab the control & mold society they way they want & send it in the direction they want doing it claiming things like "drugs 'r' bad, mmmmmkay" all the while alcohol is fine & kills & tortures way more people. There's a few different elements in play there leading to such nonsensical bullshit & none of those are ever spoken by those wielding the fear & the hope & consequently, the power. There's some unsupported zealous, religious, "moral" front plastered all over it to make the notion sound good to the sheeple. These studies exist because of the same people that tell everyone masturbation makes you go blind & sexual education leads to more "sinful" fornication & abortion is murder & faggotry damns you to a "Hell" that they really do believe exists. These are the same idiots that think knowledge is a weakness because the Bible told them so & that a 3D model drawn out of vertices & shaded with pixels to look like a **** will cause the planet to cave in on itself. Many of us are just tired of all the idiocy. The world is a worse place for it, the smart, sensible people know it because above a certain intelligence level it just can't get any more obvious & it's frustrating when there are so many out there that just fall so short of the requirement. Well intentioned or not, they are a relentless drag on society, an inhibition to progress & an all around pain in the ***. That's what Timz wanted to say. Like, I think you need to learn to read between the lines, so no one has to spell it out for you.

F for fail

Both you and your friend are wrong. You cannot expect anyone to accept any theory just because you believe it is correct. When you, part of the "enlightened" group, comes along and tells the "dumb masses" that they are wrong, you have to prove it. Just like they must prove the opposite if we want to reach a conclusion. So, for your holiness to be taken seriously, the scientific method was invented. It defines a few simple rules how one can conduct a test which proves one theory to be true or false. Tests such as these apply for theories in exact sciences, social studies and any other field. These research experiments, mentioned in the article, are mandatory to settle an ongoing dispute. Otherwise, your word would be just as good as those of the "dumb masses". And this way, you'd have a divided opinion on a scientific subject. This isn't the issue, though. The problem at hand is that you, for a very misplaced reason, have illusions of grandeur and believe yourself to be superior to others by holding mysterious knowledge of an absolute and irrefutable nature. So far, you convinced everyone else of the opposite.

I mean if that was what you

I mean if that was what you were saying then you completely mis-interpreted the conclusions of the study anyway? So either you're lying and trying to cover yourself up or you're even more of a moron than everybody thinks you are "little kid"...
