Famous game designer Hideo Kojima revealed that some Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain characters are being redesigned to be "more erotic" in an effort to encourage cosplay and to boost figurine sales.

"I've been ordering to Yoji [Shinkawa, the game's art director] to make the character more erotic, and he did it well," the series creator wrote on his English Twitter account. "Recently I've been making characters this way. I create the setting thoroughly, how he/she spent early life, name, style, favorite phrase, fashion, action, to stand the character out."

"The initial target is to make u want to do cosplay or its figurine to sell well," he admitted openly.

Kojima promised to reveal background story and CG model of one of the game's characters this Friday. This character is "Quiet," who is described by Konami as "mute, bikini-clad sniper."

Kojima decided to make the announcement because he was asked by a cosplayer fan about Quiet. Since he cannot reveal confidential info to an individual, he decided to announce that info publicly. Nonetheless, Kojima fears that Quiet's redesigned outfit might be too complex for cosplayers to recreate.

"This one may not be cosplayable [...] What if no one would do Quiet cosplay at TGS even [if I give] the info...lol?," he pondered.
