Microsoft Secretly Testing Halo 4 Streaming To PC And Windows Phone

Talking under the condition of anonymity, sources close to Microsoft told The Verge that the company is testing own cloud-based game streaming service.

The service is still in prototype stage and it hasn't been branded yet, but The Verge's sources have seen Halo 4 for Xbox 360 being streamed to Windows PC and Lumia 520 Windows Phone smartphone.

Sony has already publicized its plan to use Gaikai streaming service to make PlayStation 3 game available on PlayStation 4. In a recent interview, Microsoft senior director of product management and planning Albert Penello didn't rule out the possibility of an equivalent setup for Xbox One.

"There are so many things that the servers can do," he said of Microsoft's Azure cloud service. "Using our Azure cloud servers, sometimes it's things like voice processing. It could be more complicated things like rendering full games like a Gaikai and delivering it to the box. We just have to figure out how, over time, how much does that cost to deliver, how good is the experience."

timing is wierd

seems like a weird thing to do now. kind weird timing given that gaming is transitiong to Linux and Android. and away from windows altogether. this only appeals to existing XBONE console owners. it doesn't appeal to the sole PC gamer on its own. hence...u need xbone to even do this!!!!

I think the whole point here

I think the whole point here is to avoid making the xb1 backwards compatible with the 360. Instead you'd just stream 360 games to xb1, streaming to PC is probably not going to happen just a test box just like those pcs they used to showcase xb1 games months ago.

Cloud gaming is crap,

Cloud gaming is crap, internet connections are not at the level where latency is low enough to make no visible difference to players. Just learn from sony again and make lan based streaming, thats an environment where low latency is guaranteed.

They have no respect for

They have no respect for their player base, and this is why they will charge them to play the games they already own (!) on a streaming service, which will have latency issue at certain times, more for fast paced games, as already mentioned below. Meanwhile my 5,10,15 years old games are still working and I can play them with any usb controllers. To each his own thing!

It's crap.

They could do this streaming thing... or, you know, just port the damn game instead of spending millions on a system that people won't use (because of latency and other issues). Or hey, they could copy a popular feature from the best-selling console ever and just add backwards compatibility to their new systems. Microsoft especially has no excuse here, since the 360 doesn't use many unique parts that would be difficult to emulate.
