Command and Conquer not entirely dead

It was only a few weeks ago that we heard EA was shutting down the studio it had created purely to build the next Command and Conquer game and shutting the game down permanently, despite the fact that it was supposedly not far from release.

However now EA has announced that while it may have put Victory Studios on the chopping block, but it wasn't ready to throw away the spiritual Generals sequel just yet.

"For those of you who bought The C&C Ultimate Collection, your early access to the beta will be honored once production of this title resumes under a new studio,” reads the EA announcement.

"We would like to thank you for your time and interest in Command & Conquer, and we look forward to sharing the news with you when production resumes on this title in the future."

It's not clear from the announcement which studio it will be, or if the production will continue any time soon, though the longer EA waits, the more the fame will need overhauling as assets become outdated.

I for one though would have loved to have seen this game come to fruition. While it wasn't the most innovative or even that exciting sounding a game, it was the sequel to one of my favourite games of all time. CnC Generals and its expansion Zero Hour ended up keeping me entertained for years. I racked up thousands of games.

Man, remember no-rush games? Do people still play those in RTS games? It's been so long since I played one.

Sad but true

YUP!! Just like Kane not entirely dead, beaten but not sorely missed. Thrown out of a plane but still breathing, ganked from angle but still moving. Like a slug EA slithers, everything it touches turn to shit.

I guess they found some good

I guess they found some good stuff left over from the way in the past they didn't destroy. But C&C3 was good to a point. (All I did is play VS friends) And I hated the mirror maps where they would make half of it and mirror it for the other half.

Correct

Everything after generals has been crap in my opinion, EA didn't have vision, so they diluted the crap out of the franchise then made Tiberium Alliances. TA is totally pay to win and intentionally designed to promote the most micro transactions possible, with completely boring repetitive play unworthy of the C&C name. A follow up to Renegade would have been awesome, but EA just did what EA is best at, ruining franchises.

Just bring back the original

Just bring back the original C&C and modernize it, I miss C&C and Age of Empires, so many countless nights lan party with 2 bedrooms and a living room full of computers, even red alert was fun on the first Playstation, we had that cable running all the way up and down the stairs to seperate televisions lol.

The cable!

OMG, I totally forgot about the playstation link cable! So many Red Alert: Retalliation matches on the old national tvs. & to the young kids out there... those are the tvs that go "doog" when you flip the dial!

ahah right :) i miss AoE too.

ahah right :) i miss AoE too...i remember i played my first LAN party in 1998 with that game, some of my friends didnt have the game installed so i thought: "let's share the cd drive so they can all install the game from my cd"..oh man..it took ages LOL the cd drive was spinning like crazy..all computers connected with a 10mbps HUB..:D Also i love those classic RTS where u had the time to actually enjoy the game (and the music!) instead of just creating units and destroy everything in 7 minutes..
