One of the most eagerly awaited movies is ready to premiere. July 11th will see the release of Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within, although it is not the first game - turned - movie, it has created a great deal of controversy with the producers claiming to have created the most life-like animation ever.
"The eyes are one of the single biggest things that make people alive," said Andy Jones, the animation director. "We're moving the eyes around to make the character seem like it's thinking and feeling for itself. Like there's a soul."

Such claims have created a fear among actors that their job may soon become unecessary.
"I am very troubled by it," said Tom Hanks, who does not enjoy the thought of competing for roles with his digital twin. "But it's coming down, man. It's going to happen. And I'm not sure what actors can do about it."

This will all, of course, be put to the test when the movie actually premieres, the audiences the movie will "pull" will no doubt offer the publics view on the digital - flesh actor debate. However, in a competition between Angelina Jolie and Lara Croft, flesh gets my vote.

In danger of loosing their jobs? Give me a break. This computer animation is great for...let's see...things that aren't possible in real life. Yeah, that's it. Who the heck wants to watch a romantic comedy starring RT-904 and GE-2648?

I downloaded the trailer for this....Whoa! Absolutely stunning!I'm moving to south Wales in September to study computer animation and this movie has influenced me even more. I think I read somewhere that they employed 40 of the worlds best CGI animators to work on this film, and it looks like they've done a bloody good job.As for actors being worried about the prospect of being replaced by digital models, they shouldn't be. At the moment, computer generated animation is so expensive that it isn't really the norm, Final Fantasy will be a one off for the moment (ok, so Shrek is fully computer generated, but I bet it didn't cost nearly as much as Final Fantasy!). Take Stuart Little for example, did you know that it cost around $100,000 for every 4 seconds of animation? 20 secs around half a million dollars! The point is that computer generated characters cost too much to cast (unless you really need one - has anyone seen a good acting mouse?). Maybe in a few years time when CGI doesn't cost as much actors could be replaced, but there are only a few directors that would prefer this, but bearing in mind that the first feature length CGI film was Toy Story, and that was only made in 1995, the technology still has a long way to go.

...and another quick note to Bubba...I take it from your comment that you have absolutely no idea about CGI animation? I can guarantee that if you keep a close eye on the technology, things will get better. Pretty soon you won't be able to tell the difference between 'real' and CGI. As animation gets better, and we discover more about the way the human body works, things will change

Well, It certainly looks like radiator had a lot to say about this movie. Good for him. But really, I do agree. I also the trailer (like, 5 times in fact) and it blew me away. Everytime I see the commercial on TV, I immediately look up hoping that it is a new one (from what I know they released two different kinds) - and even if it's not, I find myself in the same state of bewilderment and anticipation each time. Yes, I will definately be one of the millions on patrons in the movies to see FF tomorrow - and even if the plot sucks (which I doubt it well, as the games generally have very good plots), I'm sure I'll enjoy it all the same. Thank you SquareSoft, thank you.

ff was good on the graphics but terrible on the script. way too much new age religious crap and scifi cliffhangers. In the end its more like a foreign film than a scifi blockbuster. I just wish they had worked on the story a little more.

Ok so I went and did the deed and saw the flick today. All I can say is that the entire movie was amazing. It was simply one of, if not the, most beautiful movie I have ever seen. There were scenes, here and there, where the eye is simply tricked. The main character is so beautifully textured and modeled that it is amazing. The eyes, the hair and the motion of the characters defies imagination. And the story had all the elements of the classic japanese animated movie. Now I have spoken to some people that didnt like the movie. I find that the common factor between them is that they do not like either the games or anime. I think that these people are expecting Ben Hur when what they are getting is an anime film with a gorgeous facelift. So if you like CGI then go. If you don't like the story line of Anime or games then you wont like the movie as much, if at all. But if you like all three then you can't miss this. One lady was saying "I have never seen anything like it. How did they do it?" Well I know how these things are done (cant do it but i do have a good grasp on it) and I have seen b/c there is so little difference in some scenes from "CG" to real life. All I can say is that the Prophet was in awe and wide eyed like a kid.

I just saw the movie, and i didn't think it was as good as it was hyped up to be. I've played all the games, and I think it's safe to say that even the storyline for the original final fantasy game was better than the movie. The animation was great, and definately the best i've seen in a full-length movie, but I've seen plenty of CGI scenes in games that can match the quality of final fantasy. These days you can't rely on CGI to support a crap storyline. It's standard technology now. And apart from the zero-gravity scenes, these 'fake' actors haven't done anything that normal actors can't do better. And why is Tom Hanks worried? As I recall, he made quite a bit of money by supplying the voice for Woody in the Toy Story movies.

I suggest you all download and play the game before talking about the movie:1)go to [url removed] and download the emulator.2)go to [url removed] and search:"download zsnes roms". or, you can go to :"[url removed] I don't know if the roms there work.download the zip file of:"final fantasy 3" (or 2, or 5, it's your choise. but carefull! some versions are in japanes!). I reccomend 3. or 2. 5's O.K., to. then, after you unzip it, (the file. if you don't have winzip, then... well, it's your problem!. download it from [url removed] and use the emulator. then, just press 'file', and the 'open', and go to the directory, and double press the file, and... play!.

Seen it, remark. Awesome. great stuff.the story line though, reminded me of FF7 a bit, with the life force shit from everything returning to the planet after it died blah blah blah. anyone agree.?and if you havent seen this film i suggest you get yo ass out there and see it, top stuff.

Final Fantasy Better Then Flesh?

I think the film was good but it was the basic FF7 plot (planet having a spirit and big meteor etc)with new charachters. another thing the film basically started at the end. If this was made into a game it wouldve started before she got infected and all the shite happened. but it was still good.
