it appears that if you have any save game data the game will crash when you press start. by changing the app id it creates a new folder and therefore does not have the save file that causes the crash
If You Have The Issue Where Your Save Seems To Corupt The Game Open The Skidrow.ini And Change The Last Number In The Appid To 1. Worked For Me Should Work For You.

To correct the crash, on Win 7, you have to go into Users\Name\AppData\local\SKIDROW\ and delete the folder 205950 (someting like that, I can't remember). But the game still crash after a reboot. :/
