The journeys of the Doom movie around Hollywood continue as Warner Bros. have allowed their rights to expire. Universal was quick to jump in and optioned Doom for producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and writer/producer John Wells of ER and West Wing fame, with Enda McCallion attached to make his directorial debut.

The story of the Doom based movie is a long and confusing one. Initially the film was at both Columbia and Universal who owned but never developed the property. ID's deal with Warners put that studio under deadlines to get things done. The deal required WB to have a script by a certain date, get green lit by another and to start filming by a certain time. Since those conditions were not met, the rights immediately came back to iD.

The script, originated by Dave Callaham, is adapted from the plotline for the id Software and Activision video game Doom 3, slated for release July 15.

The story is set at a Mars space station, where an aerospace conglom is conducting secret experiments when something unleashes a demonic force that threatens to overtake the facility.

It seems that in this case the game will be released far ahead of the movie.

well i think if the movie has a shitty story line as long as it has ass blood and guts then its a good movie... i mean come on look at kill bill.. story line sucks ass but geez the slash and gash made it good, plus if its anything close to a movie like resident evil, it will be very good hey if they just get the minds working properly like they did for resident evil, and ask john carmack some advice for the movie .. its abvious it will be good, pff ill see it anyway just cause its called DOOM :)

it would have been cool if they used the Second Doom story to make the movie. it would have been a 3 movie like the game had 3 chapter.the first chapter of doom1 was better than the doom2 one but the last of doom2 was king.ive already changed my mind, it should be an anime with as much episode as needed, think they can cut it with 24 ?anime rules over liveaction

They cant make the film just from Doom2, you need a reason why the monsters come to earth.Just a thought....watch Aliens, then think imps and space marines....Doom the movie.Also if they make the monsters die like in the original doom game it will be completely sick!!But they will make it a 12 or a 15 just so all the kids can watch it and it will be poo, even though most of the people who played it first a well into their 20's

I seriously think that the movie should be plotted on the very first materpiece and original game DOOM (hails to utter and true evil back then m/) doom3 is soon to be released, and i think that by making a movie of it's structure it is going to foil up the gaming aspect of it, making gamer (like me) not regard it so much as being amazing, as it has been a movie, and since there are soooooo many zombie films out and to come out, doom3 will just be placed amongst the heap. there will be a short story... but the movie wont be good as the game is gonna be! You know why? People people... Your forgetting one thing!DOOM IS NOT LIKE MOST GAMES!Unlike most games which have an extensive plot and have you running missions and everything... The original doom just had you surviving! Their was no real storyline besides HELL HAS BROKEN LOSE! SURVIVE!!So i think when it comes to the movie, the directors will be creative and add lots of story things.I mean, it has the potential of becoming a great movie... Monsters, mars, guns, fear!!!!, and most of all (as mentioned before) it will have gore.Admit it guys, how many times when you were playing doom did u dream for some more information about the plot, and what reallys going on? Im sure this movie will be good. Just staring at the trailer videos keeps me hooked!

@mrcarmack, i completly agree...when u realy followd the story in doom u know that there are many things whe dont know yet.. in doom 3 the xplain some things like that hellportal open whit something the found.. on mars!? what can be found on mars that opens the gate to hell?? i hope it gets xplained in the movie or in the full version of doom3.. this game got everything a movie need.. its innposible to screw up a movie about doom...i cant wait to see it

I love doom I can still remember when my dad brought it home and got it running. I was only 7 years old but I still enjoyed it all the same.I wasn't very good at it so I would turn on the god powers and run around killing everything. I just couldn't get enoughf of it!Any how I hope it's good.

Doom 3 has a substantial storyline and it will take very little tweaking to make it into a good movie. My convern is that it will get the standard "cookie cutter" script and end up like all the other movies before it. already they are adding a female scientist to it for the hero to protect.The script has to remain fresh and exciting, make it different, surprise the audience, not just make them jump.But I will say, Doom 3 certainly had a solid story for a move to be made from.
