It is official, there is a story doing the rounds that Hollywood is preparing a movie about the world of Halo. If a rumor hierarchy did exist, this particular one would be on its way to college to start a 3-year course to become a rumor but considering the current buzz around anything Halo, we just had to report on it.

The story does go into some detail however and if any of the names associated with the movie are correct then the chemistry sounds perfect for the job. Which Halo fan would say no to having Ridley Scott, (Blade Runner, Alien), direct, Ed Harris appear as Captain Keyes and Samuel L. Jackson as Captain Johnson. It appears that Bungie has been in talks with Warner Brothers regarding a movie but has insisted that it will only consider handing over the movie rights if the original Alien director and writer are involved, something which may throttle the project since Ridley Scott is not very easy to get.

According to insider information, appearing on ain't-it-cool-news, Scott has, apparently, been offered the script, storyboards etc. before and passed on doing a Halo movie but that was all before Halo 2 started breaking all sorts of sales records.

The idea of Ridley Scott directing a Halo movie seems the perfect match of high-tech effects with a traditional tense directing style and the thought of large epic-scale battles from the game appearing on the big screen under Scott's direction is definitely pleasing. It will be however, extremely disappointing if the entire project fails to take off due to one person's refusal. There is no doubt that Ridley Scott is the perfect man for the job but there has to be some other director who can handle the project; possibly a European movie directed by Mike Leigh so that we can discover the social aspects of Master Chief's career and the personal journey he has to take in order to reconcile his differences with his ageing and sick father.

Since everything is at the speculation stage for the time being, we will leave you with one thought of a Halo movie directed by Ridley Scott in which tense Black Hawk Down battles are followed by claustrophobic psychological tension in the style of Alien and where breathtaking photography is accompanied by epic orchestrated vibrant music as Hans Zimmer usually creates. Not bad is it?

Who would you like to see directing and starring in a Halo movie, which game do you believe is better suited to provide the story for the first movie, please share your thoughts and ideas in the user comments section.

Halo Movie in Talks

I feel that the movie should be in real time and not CGI. It would be alot cooler and yeah it may cost more but it would prolly quadruple it back in profits from game fanatics alone. Not to sure who should play Master Chief though.

Halo Movie in Talks

I think the guy who does master chiefs voice in the game should still be the voice. You never see his face anyway and it will keep the uniquesness of the c**ky badass who is Master Chief

Halo Movie in Talks

Ok. I think most of us can agree that Master chief should be played (either in voice or in person)(or both) by the guy who did his voice. I just can't force myself to agree with Schnitler about Julia Roberts as Cortana. I think it would be cooler to have people who aren't veteran actors cast in the movie. To me it seems like it would degrade it to have big name actors.I can see your point about the problem with elite costumes, cheddar, but if they can make Alien constumes or Queen Alien monsters, then surely they can design a solution for the elites. I agree. They won't be able to have actors in suits all the time for big battles and should do CGI Elites. I just hope if they take that route they don't half-ass it and the CGI looks like sh**.As for the story line they should begin with The Fall of Reach. I'm wrestling witht the idea of combining The Fall of Reach and Halo:Combat Evolved storylines togeather, but if they do that they might edit too much and it would lose some of the story's integrity, so I'm still thinking on that.Personally I think Cortana should be played by the lady who did Cortana's voice. I don't remember her name. Plus if they keep the people who did the voices they wouldn't have to be instructed as much and they would know a lot about the story.I think Bungie screwed themselves by not showing what Master Chief looks like in the first game, because if they show him in the third game many people will disagree with what they showed him as.I can't agree that if it was a non-stop shott 'em up flick it would be worth a damn. I think it would be infinitely better to have an actual story line.

only one thing, it has to be an R movie. I mean the game is M so why should the movie be any different. And im sure that if parents will buy their kinds mature games they will take them to see a R rated movie. Im just saying that if they make it a gay little pg13 movie then it will lose most of its awsomeness that is in the game. Seriosly when has there ever been a good war movie that was rated pg13? (well except Star Wars...kinda)

I feel that a Halo movie should have the chief in the suit and not reveal how he looks because thats how the game is and it adds a sort of mysteriousness to Master Chief. The guy who did the voice of Chief should play him in the movie if possible and there should be a suit that an elite or brute would use because it just sends a chill down your spine when you see a brute crush a gruunt or jackal like it was nothing. I would also love to see more hunters in the movie than in the game since little is known about them.

This is all turning into a big joke.Gamers play Halo because they're,well, gamers.Halo is a fine game for the X Box,but the cinimatics weren't the main part of it,the gameplay was.I have to say that when I play Halo,I most often skip the cinimatics.

You're all nuts, Vin dielsle? How are you not tired of his crummy one liners? Master chief actually talks in the books, and the hal story outside of them is horrible, so it better not be based on that. Either way, i agree with time. If this goes through, god help the movie industry.

Halo Movie in Talks

I have a feeling this movie might go the way of the long forgotten super mario brothers movie man it was cool as a kid but now holy cr@p its awful. Don't get me wrong halo2 is fun and i have almost every action figure of halo but don't ruin a good series with a movie..... and props to the guy that mentioned marathon...... but how bout a gnop movie or pathways into darkness or myth...

Halo Movie in Talks

I think they make the movie and i agree that the guy who does the voice for the Master Cheif (John)should play.I think i speak for everone (whos played Halo and loved it)when i say they should make the movie or we will RIOT!!!!!!!!

Who wants an HL2 movie I hate HL its so gay. A Halo movie in cgi would be awesome. Oh and games that become movies suck? like say super mario bros, but you said it was good then and thats what matters all movies are good then but 10 yrs later we get better special effects and stuff so of course it sucks to today standards but Halo can be awesome. I think resident evil came out good. I think Halo would do better than both resident evils put together. you can throw in mario bros too. all the gamers and scifi and action people would watch this movie.

Halo Movie in Talks

It would truly be an awsome thing with that lineup. But Samual Jackson as Johnson? I really don't think he could fit the part. But someone who could would be the black guy in Aliens (alien 2) that plays the captian/general guy. He souds and acts much like johnson. Also it would be even cooler if they brought in Michille (or however it is spelt) Rodriguez, who actually voice acted a marine in the second one. True, keep cortania and master chief the same voice actors as well. I'd also prefer john willams as a composer over hans zimmer.

The best video game to movie cross over, sadly is.... Mortal Kombat... I was 6 when I saw the movie in the theatre, it was just like the game I had played and beaten serval times! I'd have to say it's one of my favorite movies only because it was so stupid.

Generally technically adept, play far more and better higher quality games than consolers.

Look, Halo is going to be a movie that will be a big hit, or a big flop, like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Getting the director, Ridley Scott is a great idea. One thing they might be able to do is follow the telling of the book, in that they can switch viewpoints and focus not only on Master Chief, but also on the other characters, such as the Marines, Capt. Keyes and even the Covenant. I dont know about the character of Sargent Johnson as Samual, you are right Tecguy, they should have the dude from Aliens 2 play the part. I think Ed Harris would play a good part as the Captain. As for Cortana, lol, keep her as in the game, CG will do fine, i just hope they use the original voice actor as her.

Halo Movie in Talks

And i think that the famous actor (can't remember his name though)who played as the arbiter should stay that role in the movie. That is of course if the arbiter even is in the movie.

Halo Movie in Talks

I agree with atma raine. This will either be a big hit or a big flop...or anywhere in between. But I think we should just get some no name actors that can act, or just use the guys that did the voices. Do the books or something else entirely. Cgi as the alines and use alot of green screens. But majority of it real.Get ridly scott. And we will be fine.

Halo Movie in Talks

Yes, crouching, we need no name actors, and maybe one or two big ones that play minor parts. The storyline needs to be during the Fall of Reach, when the Spartans get wiped out and Master Chief is the last one. Then go to Halo. It sets up the characters and the storyline. Either that or start right when the game begins, but I think that will not bring any history of the war or the Spartans and it might confuse anyone who has not played the game...of course, if they havent played the game, they might not watch the movie either.

Halo Movie in Talks

Okay, we've had alot of games made into movies, Mario, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Mario brothers, Final Fantasy, I've even heard talks about a possible Wolfenstein movie. We got a Doom movie being made, a Halo movie being planed, and a Metroid movie that was announced not to long ago. Only a mater of time when other companies try to bank on the game to movie idea. Half-Life, War Craft, Command and conquor, Soul Calibur, and who knows what else, there are quite a few games that would make great movies. But are the directors capable of produceing something that wont stray from the story or general idea of the game?Mario brothers was kind of a let down for me when I first saw it years ago on the big screen. I was like, goombas DON'T look like that.Final fantasy was okay, but it could have been alot better in my opinion. Kinda like the MK or SF movies, not too bad but could have been alot better.I guess we'll see where this all goes. I for one would like to see a Halo movie made

First if they are giong to create a halo movie the idea of it being on M.C. journey through his life exactly as in the fall of reach novel. The only other thing is that the actors who made the voices for the game are not the ones to play the parts due to the fact that M.C. voice is from an old fat guy. whichis exactly what i want M.C. to look like...NOT!

Halo Movie in Talks

M.C: Clive OwenCortana: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kate BeckinsaleSrg. Johnson: Samuel L.Cpt. Keys: Clint Eastwood eh ehThey cant make the mistake of using horrible one lined actors like vin deasil for m.c.

Halo Movie in Talks

now now, settle down, lets begin, remember judge dredd film, things were fine till the helmet came off, the lawmaster fly's? hollywood eh they know very well how to "improve aspects".halo the film? in theory it does'nt matter who plays mc, the helmet should remain, right?i'm betting my left testicle that it is taken off, and a perfect set off pearly whites will shine out, like a fart in a packed lift.... betcha it's vin aswell, or the rock.

Halo Movie in Talks

In regards to who will play Master Chief: I think they should just do it like they did Darth Vader in Star Wars. Use the voice actor from the Halo games and have somebody in Spartan armor do all of the physical stuff.

Halo Movie in Talks

I say good call to huff_diggler. If they take the helmet off, its definitely going to be some talentless dip**** like Diesel who has a such a deep, manly voice that he can play any role he wants. He'll intimidate you into letting him play it if you don't offer!

Halo Movie in Talks

Exactly, anon, do a Darth Vader, as for Cortana, she is a computer, so why have a real actor play her voice? Use the CG model in the game and have the original voice actor for her play her. As for Samel L. Jackson, no, and Clint Eastwood? No, J.K, putting big named actors in this movie is going to bring it down. This storyline has a big enough hype without those big name actors. Get new, fresh people. Hope the producers read up on these comments, I would...

Vin Diesel has the perfect voice and musculature for the role of Master Chief. However, I believe that his face should not be revealed even though we know what Vin Diesel looks like. Bungie has said they will never show what his face looks like, and I think the movie should follow this. Cortana should be CGI, with the original voice actress keeping her role, Captain Keyes should be Ed Harris, and I agree with Samuel L. Jackson as Sergeant Johnson. I think that either Ridley Scott or James Cameron should be the director. Many people associate James Cameron with Titanic and movies such as that, but let us not forget that he also brought us the first two awesome entries in the Terminator universe, as well as Aliens, a more than worthy sequel to the original. As for the aliens, The Elites will probably be guys in fancy suits (along with the Brutes, if they are in it), and the Grunts, Jackals, and Buggers will probably all be in CGI. I can see a lot of little people in Grunt costumes (like the Ewoks), but I think CGI would be the way to go.The special effects house should either be ILM, or Weta Workshop. I find that ILM (Star Wars) does a lot of quality work, but is overrated. I think Weta Workshop (Lord of the Rings) is a better choice.

HERE IS HOW THEY SHOULD MAKE THE MOVIE:They should (and probably will) make more than one movie if they really want to satisfy us completely. There is just too much story covered to cram it all into a 2-hour film, 3 if they've got balls; or they could just have a different plot.Anyways, they should do it like the Lord of the Rings (assuming they stick to the original plot): Start out with a ten-minute prologue to introduce the background details (like how, where, when, and why the Spartans were created while focusing on the Master Chief), thus jump starting the movie's plot. The actual movie should begin with the Battle of Reach (and the subsequent Fall of Reach), which would throw us right into the action. The producers should then carry out the plot accordingly, hopefully adding an exciting twist or two.I also have a few “suggestions” of my own (like it matters). Number One: Do not make this movie CGI. I mean, geez, just hand the rights to Pixar and let Tim Allen do the voice for Master Chief. Number Two: Do not add any romance. The game/books have none, as the movie should not. Number Three: Do try to use as many voices from the game because they were a big reason for Halo’s overall success. However, the voice of South Park’s Chef could work for Sergeant Johnson, and Ed Harris would be the best Captain Keys, period. He is not a huge name actor, but well known enough to fit the role perfectly (and he looks the part). Number Four: Use some exact dialogue from the game to quench the die-hard Halo fan’s need for living. Number Five: Well, this isn’t a suggestion; I am just torn between showing the Master Chief’s face or keeping his identity a “secret.” This is purely opinion, and I have no opinion on this matter. Simply put, some will be pleased and others will be less than pleased when/if the moment of truth arrives. In conclusion, if they find a way to put it all in one film, then yay for them. If not, we can all be patient and w

I they want 2 make a good movie then they cant possibly have an actress play cortana. I think that is the one thing that is ok if tghey computer animate. If they animate the covenant then the whole movie will just suck. Also I think vin disel would make a pretty awsome master cheif. His voice would fit the MC personality/style and if they nt think his voice is good they should definitly get the guy who made MC's voice in halo 1+2. Something i already read here said that there should be no romance, which is 100% true. if there was even one kissing scene it would kill the movie. Also the movie would be great if they could make all the covenant look real, or like in they game. And last i think the marines should use their funny lines to add some laughs to the movie.

Halo Movie in Talks

i think that ed harris shouldnt star as captain keys. sorry havent thought of who yet. and they should get the original video game VOICES for the job. for master chief get someone like jeff goldblum to play him. he has to be tall and buff for a top soldier
