It is official, there is a story doing the rounds that Hollywood is preparing a movie about the world of Halo. If a rumor hierarchy did exist, this particular one would be on its way to college to start a 3-year course to become a rumor but considering the current buzz around anything Halo, we just had to report on it.

The story does go into some detail however and if any of the names associated with the movie are correct then the chemistry sounds perfect for the job. Which Halo fan would say no to having Ridley Scott, (Blade Runner, Alien), direct, Ed Harris appear as Captain Keyes and Samuel L. Jackson as Captain Johnson. It appears that Bungie has been in talks with Warner Brothers regarding a movie but has insisted that it will only consider handing over the movie rights if the original Alien director and writer are involved, something which may throttle the project since Ridley Scott is not very easy to get.

According to insider information, appearing on ain't-it-cool-news, Scott has, apparently, been offered the script, storyboards etc. before and passed on doing a Halo movie but that was all before Halo 2 started breaking all sorts of sales records.

The idea of Ridley Scott directing a Halo movie seems the perfect match of high-tech effects with a traditional tense directing style and the thought of large epic-scale battles from the game appearing on the big screen under Scott's direction is definitely pleasing. It will be however, extremely disappointing if the entire project fails to take off due to one person's refusal. There is no doubt that Ridley Scott is the perfect man for the job but there has to be some other director who can handle the project; possibly a European movie directed by Mike Leigh so that we can discover the social aspects of Master Chief's career and the personal journey he has to take in order to reconcile his differences with his ageing and sick father.

Since everything is at the speculation stage for the time being, we will leave you with one thought of a Halo movie directed by Ridley Scott in which tense Black Hawk Down battles are followed by claustrophobic psychological tension in the style of Alien and where breathtaking photography is accompanied by epic orchestrated vibrant music as Hans Zimmer usually creates. Not bad is it?

Who would you like to see directing and starring in a Halo movie, which game do you believe is better suited to provide the story for the first movie, please share your thoughts and ideas in the user comments section.

Halo Movie in Talks

Yeah the books rock! I think that it should have clips of his past played at the beginning that explain how he came to be. Then, he wakes up from cryo-sleep on the Autumn. After that, well... I'll leave that to the directors. It's a Halo movie and even if they don't make sequals(though I REALLY hope they do), you know it's gunna kick arse either way!

Vin Diesel would be good for MC and Samuel L Jackson would be good for Sargeant Johnson, but i can't picture it in my mind having Samuel L Jackson listening to the "flip" music that Johnson playes while on Halo. They definately need to alternate main characters between covenant and the human like in halo 2 gameplay. The covenant were too much of a mystery to us as an audience during the first game. Hopefully they won't do the same for the movie. I think it would somewhat take away from the amazing experience to make it a CG movie. If it's filmed for real, you get a sense that this was real. You believe that you're watching something that's happening now. It's just too valuable an asset to discard. It would dissapate the thrill just a bit if it was CG and I'd rather have real-life Halo.

o plz! goat u need to get a life. lol. u know nothing of halo and its story so go tell some one else about your problems! i know he is hot but like the dude said....this is about halo! peace out

bungie justs needs to go ahead and get the halo movie over with cause i am getting impatient. i mean, stop debating on wether to use real actors or all cgi. just do something! there are people out there(like me) that really want to see this happen. and about the story...they should start at the very begining. that would make sense to the people who haven't read the books or played the games.the first book was really awesome so i think bungie should base the movie on that first. then follow through with the second. (which pretty much has the story of the game.) after that..well i dunno. the third book doesn't really follow the second.plz email me for comments. peace out!

i think that tommy lee jones that played in a lot of alien type movies should be played as captain keys. and i dont even know why most of you are arguing about whose going to play the master chief when their probably not even going to show his face anyway because if you watch the end of the first halo as hes taking off his helmet the camera moves and the roof of the ship blocks off his head but in my opinion i think they shouldnt show his face at all until the last movie just for the excitement. also i think that vin diesel should play the voice of the master chief. if they do show his face i think that vin diesel should play the character because he has almost the same voice as the master chief and he looks like an army type dude anyway not to mention that when hes not smiling he looks like a mindless killing machine.

WTF...why is everyone so caught up with vin diesel...he's a horrible actor...name 1 great movie he's been in...he's a bum, and reminds me of a jean claude van damme type dude...lame (although bloodsport was freakin awesome). Again, if you've read the books you know how awesome they were, and you'd agree that the movie has to follow the books to an extent...MC's childhood, or lack thereof, his training, etc. should either be shown in real time, or via flashbacks...either way, they can't be left out...also, if they dont choose to show MC's face, then the dude from the game MUST be doing the voice overs...it'll hit home much better that way...CG would be really cool since it would pretty much remove any doubt regarding character design, special effects, etc., but i think it has to be real...we deserve as much....i can't wait

First of all they better not make a movie out of the games it better be about on of the books or there own stuff the games wont work as movies hell playing the game is like a movie you just get to control the main actor thats all so there

I like the idea of a Halo movie (mest music for Oscers), despite the fact that all games made into movies sucked. I really don't care who plays MC, but he better be a good actor and sounds close to MC's voice. (Agree with zach, Who ever thinks the Rock or 50 cent should play as MC better be slapped 50 times and dunked in freezing water so you can WAKE UP) Another thing, they better use the Halo music used for the game, because that orchestra was the best. I just hope they don't flunk this like all game->movie did.

u freakin lyer! noname and ed dude, u got me ticed! noname, u should just be glad i am ur friend. n the words of emily,"shutup noname"(n a sassy vioce) i'll e-mail u and tell u what she was doin 2day. as 4 u ed dude, sayin i'm wierd! well at least i dont go around sayin"hey yo! i'm buff and fit" ur probably 1 of those nerds! who cares if i dont know that much bout halo! if we switch lives, u wouldn't either! i dont no that much cause i'm not allowed 2 play it. man, i feel so left out. u could at least give sum comfort. k, i'm leavin. u guys made me sad. now look. i'm shedin tears. bye.

Halo Movie in Talks

i think a prequel to the original halo with a short insight into the master chiefs career and the beginnings of the entire conflict on both sides leading into the first game would make for quite a movie

Halo Movie in Talks

i honestly think that they should have the person that did the voiceover for MC in the games as the person that plays MC, it would give it more of a game feel to it. and have the same girl do the voice over for cortana. other than that, i think itll be a kick ass movie.

Halo Movie in Talks

All of the voices should be played by the original people in the games. Also, the music should definately be the same cause it is fricken amazing. Whoever the hell wants The Rock to play the Master Chief is on crack. I should just beat you now.

Halo Movie in Talks

yea, ok no name, this is how the storyline should be done. it should be a sequel to halo 3 and during the movie, john should have flashbacks to during his training. that would be cool. so then i could play john as a 12 year old ( im 13, so the size will be right)

Halo Movie in Talks

yeah but it would be sweet if he was a new face and this guys is not really known. AND HES FREAKIN 6'8"! you even the guy that plays juggernaught is pretty damn hardcore looking! well regardless, honestly, we never see his face in the game. i do hope they do not base the entire movie on the game...not even 60% of it. stick to the books and make a series of 2-4 movies. in my oppinion thats the only way we will get to see a GOOD Halo movie.

Halo Movie in Talks

I think that the movie should be fully animated, or just use the origional voice actor of master chief. Use some huge actor and put the voice in later (like they did for Darth Vader). Whatever they do, they shudn't show him without his helmet on. Definitely go with the origional music, and its probably best to use the books for a story. Most importantly, dont screw it up!

Halo Movie in Talks

Ridley Scott would be a great choice for director but there have to be many other capable of making the project a success who are willing to do it now. I have no idea who would play master cheif well, he basically just spurts out corny 1 liners so Stalone comes to mind ala Judge Dredd.
