Revolution Controller At Work

Most gamers looked at Nintendo's Revolution controller announcement with a bewildered look and a hint of suspicion, especially when its use in FPS games was mentioned.
Arena51.be, a website that comes in French and Dutch flavors, has posted a video on the video.google site of how Nintendo's controller will work with a game such as Half-Life 2.

The demonstration is rather impressive and by a quick look at it you can see how using the controller may have a steep learning curve while it looks as if it will give you more freedom of movement. It is, of course, too early to speculate on the comfort levels for long gaming sessions or how reliable this demonstration is but the answers to all those questions will have to wait until E3, 2006 when we will get to try one of those things.

For the time being have a look at the demonstration video.

Revolution Controller At Work

I think that the ppl that have nothing good ot say about this controller are on crack.Watching how he moves the controller really shows how precise this thing can be after a little bit of practice, and some sensitivity changes(assuming it will let you). I bet you its probably easier than using my keyboard and mouse. This clip shows how much direct control you actually have. You dont have to worry about moving your mouse, picking it up and putting it back to move it again. You dont have to worry about using an analog controller and trying to line up a shot accurately. Its called Nintendo Revolution for a reason. And this controller is probably the tip of the iceberg. Its time for the ppl who have nothing good to say to open thier eyes and accept that change isnt always bad.

people need to do more than skim through the video. It is NOT the revolution controller, it's someone who made a video using the PS (?) Dvd controller with a gyroscopic mouse. They used it as a demonstration as how the revolution controller MIGHT handle like. Boo on Megagames for not pointing it out.

Well don't be impressed. This is just a stupid idea. The only reason they have this controler is because they need some gimmik to counter attack the Hidef gaming on the other consoles otherwise there will be nothin really to talk about when talking about this console. Alls i can tell you is two controllers in one hand that need to be held in the air just wont work. Its a pretty bad move. I can almost guarantee this thing will piss people off. The gamecube is a pretty dumb machine and this is a pretty dumb controller. That guy in teh video couldnt even bloody hit a target that was directly infront of his face. Can u say stupid in english 5 times fast and translate that back into 5 different languages.

You ass holes, stfu.I have kept up with nintendo over the years and if theres one thing I've learned, its that they keep improving. I've felt the evolution of their controllers from SNES to the Gamecube, and each time the palm of my hand was more pampered by their new designs than before. Each new controller improving from the previous. This new controller is something that truly can be called a revolution. It will take some getting used to, I can see that. But I can guarantee that Nintendo has done their homework before introducing a controller that is so unusual.

- the dude in the clip is so totally a newb to the controller so cut him some slack. Its like when the mouse was first introduced, people thought it was a crazy contraption. This controller is a totally new invention so I would expect ppl to take some time to get used to it. As for raising it in the air...once again I say "Newb". I've seen total newbies hold controllers and start to move it around in the air as if that'll cause an added advantage.

The controller is, to put it simply, half-way between the s**t-house console controllers (paystation and xbox) and the standard keyboard & mouse, although it's still no-where near as good. It will give the console fanboys a slight taste of what it is like to be a PC gamer and use a proper mouse and keyboard.Console fanboys will look at the video and say: "WOW!...I didn't know you could actually look up and down on those FPS games...!?". Well, PC gamers have had for the last 2 decades, what we refer to as the 'mouse' and it has been allowing us to do that and many other things with games that you can't do on a stupid con$ole.

Revolution Controller At Work

hrm, well i'm glad most of the world is so open minded they just dismiss a new idea, why don't you actually wait until you've tried it before saying it sucks.just because sony was afraid to change the ps2 controller from the ps1 doesn't mean change is bad

Interesting, I'd like to give it a go myself. Although I noticed that the guy has to move his wrist alot to turn just a small amout.A problem like that would see most Nintendo players getting pwned but Pc users online. But hey it can't be as bad as trying to aim with those suck-ass analogue sticks.I think I'll stick with my keyboa

REPOST. Sorry but megagames needs to sort out those image codes I keep getting unable to verify captcha even when I type the codes perfectly.Interesting, I'd like to give it a go myself. Doesn't look like the Revo controller.....But you know i don't see this being easy to use with children and the casual gamer. I don't care if you can swing your arm and stuff to try and imitate real life situations...all i care about is if i'll be able to aim properly etc. mouse and keyboard may not feel real but you can easily aim and enjoy a game.Nintendo can get rid of this idea...at the end of the day its not about the controller, its about the games. if nintendo is going to just keep bragging about their so called revolutionized controller, they are going to lose like with their gamecube, stupid piece of crap is obsolete now....

Revolution Controller At Work

f**kin Idiots the lot of you!How many of you play a console standing up? Sit down and rest your elbows on your knees, like you would a convential controller. Did this guy really move his hands all that much?Until you get your hands on the thing STFU. I'm predicting it will 'own' convential controllers cause they suck balls for FPS, but not as much as Halo cause that is by far the most over-hyped peice of trash FPS there is.

Revolution Controller At Work

Geez people, it is a mouse made my Gyration. I have owned one for 4 years and would recognoze it anywhere. Just google Gyration and go to their site. Click on products and go to "Ultra Professional Optical Mouse". Yup, that's it. 100 percent without a doubt.

Revolution Controller At Work

This isnt how its really intended to work either. The rev controller should aim separately to turning movements. With this the gyroscopic mouse is doing the same turning movement as the analog stick making it difficult. If the mouse simply moved the crosshair over the screen (so you could point it into the corner if you wanted) and yu used the analog stick for turning, this would be much more intuitive. Dont yu think?

Revolution Controller At Work

For certain applications, this controller could be really very good.Until you have had a good go at the controller I don't think you can fairly say anything good OR bad about it.The people who have been developing it obviously think it has potential, so just wait and see.Plus, whenever I use a new controller or wheel, I have a steep learning curve. I'm a mouse and keyboard man, so to pick up an Xbox controller or wheel for driving sims I feel very unco... The same thing will happen with the Revolution, and that's why the guy in the video was having a hard time.

Revolution Controller At Work

What are you TALKING about? Not being able to turn a circle or strafe? Here's how you turn a circle...point the controller in the direction you want to turn. To strafe, the revolution controller DOES have a D-Pad idiots, that's what you use to strafe. It's like a dual-joystick setup except it's better because you aim by pointing (like a mouse, for instance) not by pressing a joystick. Aiming with this controller will be much smoother. It's hard to learn to aim, say, in Halo, when you've been aiming with a mouse all your life. Joysticks are an on/off switch, making it harder to aim than with a Revolution controller or mouse.

Revolution Controller At Work

Sry my bad, forgot about the extra d-pad! Oops...Yea, the guy in the vid doesnt have one... but if you turn by pointing, you're either limited by wrist range like in the vid, or you have an on/off sort of function like a joystick. But theres no point in that...It would be cool if you aim light gun style with the motion detection, turn with the analog stick, and strafe with the d-pad. Its an extra degree of freedom to cope with but it could be v nice! :D

Revolution Controller At Work

Thats why the guy in the video has to keep centre-ing his mouse. I guess you could have it ultra sensitive so it does like 3 turns in one wrist range like you can with a normal mouse. But light gun style aiming is the way! (sry for double posting...twice...) :/

Revolution Controller At Work

People, stop speculating off of this vid!!! It is SO obviously NOT the revolution controller! It doesn't even look anything at all like it. This is a freaking gyroscopic mouse made by Gyration. It only has 2 axises to sense movement, rotation (Left and Right) and tilt (Up and Down). The Revolution controller can supposedly do those plus twist as well as vertical and horizontal displacement.

Revolution Controller At Work

Lemme tell ya that i will probably buy a revolution but hope to god that they dont use some dumb controller JUST to be different from everyone else otherwise i will have to wait and see if a more traditional controller is available. That remote thing looks fuggin stupid.Tip nintendo...dont try to re-invent the wheel!

Revolution Controller At Work

OK a question for all the people making speculations about this. Why does seperating (slicing) the generic controller seem like a good idea? How does it help is what id like to know =S(i know the arrangement of buttons is varied along with controls , but how does it help the gaming experience in general not only fps? )
