World of Warcraft Sneak Peak

Man this is some awesome shit!!!Blizzard has always done some neat Cinematics, tho their games really suck, well i dislike the low poly.. All this R420 and N40 fuzz, maybe they should raise the stake.BTW. this is the highest quality 3D out there. Thats the best CG, WETA DIGITAL and LOTR oscar for Visuals my ass.THIS IS 3DSMAX, and this was its standards.

LMAO you think this is better CG than Weta Digital on LOTR? Blizzard has by far the best cinematic quality of any videogame but in the end cant hold a candle to most effects used in movies particularly LOTR. Look at Golem and then look at this video. See the subdermal scattering of light on Golems skin? Yeah thats what makes him look real and this video does not.Any way very very nice cinematics but I was hoping for more video of gameplay not cinematics or fake scripted stuff, so I can see if the game will be any good, maybe next time

To everyone below saying "woo! 3d max!"This is not max, unless it is a highly modified version of the SDK with specially programmed dynamics engines. ( The cloth effects. )It is actually MAYA.Though, if you show me otherwise, I wish it really was max. ( I use max with my 3d work. )Max is more popular and used more often with game production, but maya is still and always has been the better program.Oh, and Blizzard has a very good reputation for it's Cinematics, and personally, I like their movies and quality of 3d more than a lot of Blockbuster films these days.Brick on WoW!

I thought Blizzard have always used 3dsmax cos if you look in the 3dsmax6 documentation there are screenshots of War3 cinematics in it!Of course most comercial cinematic projects use there own plugins and write there own software or use other packages to add features and rendering effects to 3dsmax.

Wow indeed. Nice stuff.Im a Cg artist with over 10 years in business. Thought i'll comment the argue above:Its 3dsmax as blizzard has used it through its history, tho possiblesome other appilications.( says on their Cinematic employement site aswell).to Grundy its reactor in action. 3ds dominates game market,Havok(max payne 2) - best, real time physics game engine, 3dsmax ...Same deal here. Daught its havok in this case, but u get the point. As for maya, its gamemarket shares are growing, but it is still mostly used in moviesas its power lays in visual FX (fluids, paint fx), rather than modeling. Infact modelingis its most weakest link in maya, it doesnt contain half of the tools that other sofwareprovide and in game's case, u need the best for low poly highest quality.this "haha golem = gollum" dude is funny too .U didnt like the vid, thats ur problem. Respect to LOTR, really loved the movie..Unfortunately maya doesn't have SubSurface scattering, it was faked using trancparency and Incandesence(unlike in max which is one of the few which does + wide range of renderes - fr, brazil 1.2/2 ),I really hope maya improves this summer in its 6th release. As for modeling, Gollum was done in Mirai by Rai Bay Raitt and animated using Motion-capture data.Anyway not into software war here. Use both for years myself and mainly work with maya for commercial visual, but 3dsmax is a killer, i belive its the strongest 3d software out right now.Waiting foralias to strike back. Anyway, if you are a 3D artist, respectful, who wants to learn, make it to the top, just ask yourself, what makes u choose 3d software ? What are the TV companies runned by people who dontknow anything by CG deciding to use? Is it because LOTR, Pixar who uses it to produce cartoons with PRMAN ?All the best

One thing that pisses me off a lot is when people just skip the intro and get right into the game. Some people dont give a rat's ass for these wonderful visuals and the years of work that was put into this. I was shocked when a friend of mine was at my house and saw the intro to RTCW for the first time after himself having the game for over a year! As amazing as the Blizzard videos are, they simply get skipped by many people who couldnt care less.

well to tell you the truth.... This game is a MMORPG so no single player story, so I have no idea why Blizzard would spend so much time and money on some fine cinematics which dont even tell any story, not like in War3 single player! They just want to keep up their reputation for producing great game movies and quality product (and maybe make up for the sub standard in-game graphics in all of their games ;) ) All I hope that the gameplay will be great

to Ray.I personally use max 6/ reactor aswell. I've been using max since ver 2.5 and I just felt that this video showed viewports that to me, didn't resemble max as closely as I know it to be. But like I said earlier, I was just suggesting it was Maya, but willing to believe it was Max since that's my program of choice! :)In the end, Blizzard make wicked cinematics, I wish I was upto that standard.

Just wanted to add that while LOTR effects were mainly done in Maya, after the movie was done, the whole team switched to SoftimageXSI for their future projects. Don't believe me? Do a search on Google. There's an interview with the guys who worked on LOTR 3D stuff. It may have been because they consider XSI to be moer powerful but it also may be because they have a lot closer relations with XSI developers than with Maya's. It means that they know some of XSI staff personally and have a big influence on future version additions and changes.Anyway, Maya, 3DSMax, SoftimageXSI, and Lightwave are all top-notch products.

just wanted to add bout LOTR. Gollum = modeled in Miray. Rendered with Mental ray ( to the guy who said " woot woot SSS " ), animated using motion capture devices... That leavs maya a very small pice of pie.As for LOTR team switching, maybe. People do this stuff for money, XSI is powerful too, altho MAYA6 will be out this summer.
