ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

Development of ATIs new chip, R520, is coming along nicely and the information on the new design is beginning to make its way to "sources" everywhere. The new chip, expected in 2005 will definitely feature Shader Model 3.0, although Shader 4.0 is almost definitely out of the planning since Microsoft is expected to hold it back until the Longhorn release, sometime in 2006.

If we are to believe previous ATI claims that the time wasn't right in 2004 for SM 3.0, the decision to support it with the R520 indicates that 2005 is considered to be the right time. Strangely enough, ATIs choice to include Shader Model 3.0 in the new boards stands to benefit the most out of upcoming games developed with the support of nVidia. That sounds like the cheapest time but may prove to be a very shrewd use of the competitor's investment.

Most ATI fans, or executives, are expecting a lot out of the R520 design, since the team behind it is the same group that created the R300 (Radeon 9700) which is in great part responsible for the ATI success story of two years ago.

Expect a lot more information to leak as we leave summer behind and enter the much busier fall.

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

For all you faggots out there, why don't you start comparing the card that's meant to be compared to nvidia's geforce 6800 ultra, i've been reading through a few of the later posts, and alot of people are reffering to the x800 pro? Well i hate to tell those people but ati's flagship card is the x800 xt platinum, not pro! And if you do a little research i think you'll find the facts are nvidia's car crunches up slightly better framerates (anything from 1 to 8 fps better) in resolutions 1024 x 768 or lower... and they aren't always infront even then, but most of the time they are.. after that resolution though, nvidia's card takes a hit, whereas ati's x800 XT PLATINUM barely starts feeling any strain till 1600 x 1200 res with anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering on... nvidia does anti aliasing alright in some games, but most of the time takes a hit, same with anisotropic filtering.. basically this is what it comes down to, if you are the type of person who doesn't car much for high res and a pretty picture but who wants high frames per second, then go with the nvidia, but if you are the type who wants to pump everything to the max (anti aliasing on full, aniso on full, all the features on and on full basically) in high resolutions, then the ati is the better way to go... seems ironic considering how much bigger the nvidia card is and how much more power it requires to run then the ati card... you'd think that the nvidia would be the hard pumping card, not the quick nimble thing...!

australia rox.but anyway, i think when the R520 comes out it has to be the winning formula dont you? Ati made errors. The 9800 was on a 150nm process and it still wiped the floor, but imagine it on a 130nm process? The X800 had a low transistor count, and was a bit underpowered and only ps2.0, of course. This card is up with features, it will probably be up with a new process and i really hope it is up with power!i think Ati may finally get it all right like the 9700pro. then we will have a clear performance difference

"okay hl2...cs source sucks....ati is for trendy n00bs....and all of you ati morons shouldnt post on nvidia forums if you know what's good for you....:)"This is the stupidest comment ive read yet...1) Where the hell are u at, this is an ATi forum u retard2) HL2 is rated better and has been moe wanted than doom 3 has and ever will be. CS:Sourse, will make a great game.3) nVidia is for noobs, anyone who doesnt realize how nVidia is not only cheating, but not actually having real pipelines. If u ask me, the 6800 pipeline config is like life support. The first 8 are the person, and the second virtual ones are the life support system. Take them away, and u die. Well if u take away the virtual pipelines, nVidia Crashes. And btw, u must be a noob urself cause anyone who knows about the cards realizes that nVidia doesnt actually have the actually technology there, its not real, its just double data transfer, so just leave the ATI forum and go back to ur little nvidia group and discuss how bad nvidia is

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

Anonymousat 21:16 2/9/2004right, thats coming from a supporter of a company (nvidia) that tried to ruin the reputation/enterprise of a very honorable company (the creators of futuremark) because their f**ken hardware sucked balls and didn't like fair play during hardware performance evaluations. whos the sore losers? huh

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

Lol....for the nVidiots out there...do you home work...PS3.0 looks no deffierent to PS2.0, it's just a more effiecient way of processing the shaders.Personally I think ATI have pulled the trump here...releasing a faster PS3.0 card when PS3.0 games are AVAILABLE. You nVidiots must be getting used to losing now lolOh and the fags saying the Ultra is faster than the XT PE, dream on. EVERY unbiased site show the XT PE being even faster than the fabled Ultra Extreme, let alone the standard Ultra. And stop comparing a 12 pipe card to a 16pipe card! fags. Given, the GT is faster than the 12 pipe PRO, but u mod a Pro VIVO to 16 pipes and it leaves the GT, Ultra and Ultra Extreme in its wake.Nuff said, go back to ur holes and prey Nvidia answers the R520, or they will be going in the same direction as 3DFX.....

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

if anyone wants to say 6800 gt is better than an x800 pro, ur wrong. All u have to do is mod a vivo x800 pro to an x800 xt pe with full 16 pipelines by switching the bios. Then the card whipes the floor with nvidia, so if u think 6800 is better, ur wrong, because for the same price, and u play ur cards right, u can easily mod the x800 pro into an x800 xt pe, and have it perform better than nvidias card will ever do.[url removed]

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

again i say australia rox.once heaps and heaps of shader instructions come out in games in the form of ps3.0 the 6800U and 6800GT will have ps3.0 to deal with them. One slight problem. The 6800 wont be able to run these at any high speed. this is where the R520 comes in! I hope they switch to a smaller process... like 90nm or something so we can break the 1ghz core clock!

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

dude just shut the f**k up....it is geting boring...do you have nothing to do but argue this...the winner is obviously the card you have...if it plays games fine it is good...you dont need 900fps...anything below 12fps is considered bad and choppy...don't believe me run 3dmark...or call any saturday morning cartoon studio and ask how many fps do their cartoons play at.

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

Anonymousat 11:2 4/9/2004go learn about the human eye. i know what you know and alot more. like you suggested all movies are encoded around 24-30fps. BUT this doesn't mean it's smooth for game playing. I suggest you try playing your games on a med to high-end videocard. you WILL see improved response/smoothness when comparing 60, 85, 100, 150 FPS. don't talk back unless you have experienced it yourself. some games will see more improvement than others. especially fast paced games like the unreal tournament series. AND for those of you who aren't using the highest refresh rate your montior can support, you should because your straining your eyes. the higher the refresh rate the better. go do some research ppl, protect your eye sight, trust me, you don't want glasses.

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

like the idea of modding the PRO to an XT. And sorry anon dude with my monitor on 100hz refresh i cant tell the diff between 60 an 100fps.but sure as hell i can tell the diff between 40 and 60.people who tell me that 24fps is the maximum amount the human eye can see, u r d**kheads.Movies are made to seem smooth because they blur images. Pause a DVD in an action scene, its blurred. Pause a game, (if its any good) it will be a perfectly sharp image. Blurring in games doesnt work well cause u gotta aim at or select moving stuff and the last thing u need is a blur!If u can distinguish between 60 and 100fps then u have good eyes, join the army. No dont actually :)

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

the max the human eye can see is not 24fps....its 200-300 something...and i have a 5950 and as long as the game doesnt fall under 12-20 fps its fine...but you wont notice choppy ness untill it falls under 12 you moron. you dont know shit and shouldnt be saying crap...if you dont believe me call any freaking cartoon studio and they will tell you that 12fps is the norm, or run 3d mark and pay attention when it shows 12fps you will see that it looks normal...its not super smooth or choppy..12fps is the barrier that crosses teh line between smooth and choppy...as long as the game is f**king smooth you dont need to worry...you dont have to have a game play at 60+ fps for it to be enjoyable.

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

anything under 30 frames will annoy most gamers i think youll find. Some are so frame pedantic that anything under 60 is "choppy." So dont go bitching at me. And stop repeating your posts and adding on little bits to make it sound different. thats close to spam

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

It's About Time Ati Brought a Hard Blow to Nvidia, they were so eager to present their videocards with SM 3.0 when the time wasn't right, now Ati is about t ounleash a more powerful card which will now end the pros and cons between Nvidia's product and Ati's and leave room for which is better performing, and that's what it all comes down to in the end. With Ati's 9700 team behind this new card coming out, we can expect some real tough competition ahead for Nvidia and it's phony technology specialists. Lol, jks.

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

v3rT0, your saying shit you dont know is true, what will nvida have to kill this? How fast is it, how much faster is it then the R520? Nvidia wins a round and you nvidia fanboys go crazy, THATS HOW BUESSNESS IS. One is faster the other then vice versa. Its not worth taking sides when no one company can possably hold the number one postion forever.

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

Tom" thats not the real v3rt0 you idiot. ppl just use the same email and nameAndy, if you wait for the new card comming to upgrade youll never buy anything. ofcourse if you own a 9700+ right now there is no reason to upgrade. i waited way too long tp upgrade but my 9800 pro aiw was perfect imo.

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

...And Still the Nvidia "Fan Kids" lol, think that there will always be a loyal Nvidia, ask that to the thousands which have switched to Ati becuz Nvidia is a cheating, lying, and corrupt, greedy corporation, they killed out Voodoo which was dam good at that time, what pathetic cry baby losers! The Industry is behind Ati and it's growing! Nvidia is loosing tons of money, their stocks are hitting rock bottom, while Ati is prospering!

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

who give's A FUK about the Uk FUK UK cuz they suck!things are actually supposed to speed up even more!!!not slow down you gay british shit!go drink a cup of tea! LOLCommon ATI and Nvidia make some more powerfull cards!, i'm hoping to see at least 10 new cards next year from Nvidia and Ati!

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

I bought my 6800GT the other day from Compusa and I LOVE IT! I went from a Ti500 and there is a HUGE difference! I have always been a huge fan of Nvidia and always will be. The only reason I went with this card over ATi was the Shader 3.0 The main thing is get a higher up card and you will love it.

ATI R520 With Shader 3.0

im confused, wasnt it a while back that ati execs were shitting themselves claiming that sm3.0 was a piece of sh1t and provided no increase in performance and quality - then released a memo saying that they had to delay the intro of sm3.0 because they were losign to nvidia - so as i was saying.... didnt ati execs say it was sh1t.....?nvidia i personally believe are the best company out of the 2, they innovate and create great quality products in comparison to atidont get me wrong, ati's good, competition is good - ati's cards were and in most cases are better than nvidias at present and in the past..... but when push comes to shove, i will support nvidia with their will to innovate and create great products
