Cops and robbers Battlefield: Hardline announced

The next entry in the Battlefield series of games won't be going to the future or the past, but will instead change from a military to a law enforcement setting. It's called Battlefield Hardline and it's set to be unveiled at E3 on June 9th at 12PM PDT. For those not in attendance, you'll be able to watch online at EA.com/E3.

"On behalf of everyone at EA and Visceral Games, I’m fired up to confirm our next project – Battlefield Hardline," said VP and GM of Visceral, Steve Papoutsis. "The game launches this fall and it’s a brand new series in the Battlefield franchise, set against the backdrop of a genre we all love – the war on crime and the battle between cops and criminals."

Visceral games previously worked on the horror/action series, Dead Space, but for the past couple of years have been focused on this new Battlefield title, which puts players in the shoes of law enforcement or criminals, though in what setting we're not yet sure of. Chances are it'll be one filled with gun fights, since that's the Battlefield tradition, but it will have to go some not to look like a clone of Payday, since that series features multiplayer action sequences during a heist.

‘We’ve been reading all of your comments and we’re excited to be going into more detail soon on the ways we’re adding new twists and turns to the foundation of Battlefield multiplayer and more about how we’re bringing our strengths at Visceral to single player’, Papoutsis added, suggesting that the game wouldn't be going the route of other multiplayer games like Titanfall and Evolve, becoming multiplayer only.

The only other hints for the game that we have so far, are unearthed images by fans, which show gas grenades, APCs, police cruisers and sports cars, suggesting some element of a chase, or perhaps it's simply a traditional arena shooter in a world dominated by criminals?

We'll have to wait until E3 to find out.
