Dead Space Director: Gears Of War 'Has The Worst Writing'

Dead Space story producer didn't shy away from naming Gears of War as the game that has "literally the worst writing" in the industry.

"It contains atrocious, offensive violations of story basics," he said. "Yet it doesn't seem to ruin it for many, many people. It's literally the worst writing in games, but seems to have no ill effects."

But that doesn't mean that Beaver's own Dead Space is much better. In fact, the story director admitted that Dead Space's story is "just a simple haunted house story" with a "pasted a personal aspect on top of" manifested in Isaac's dead girlfriend's story.

As for the best game story, Beaver chose Portal 2, which he believes "succeeds at least as much on its writing as its masterful platformer level design."

I don't know that Portal has much story to tell, although it is an interesting and novel game.

The best story I've been told so far is the moral dilemma of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It's not only a great conflict to explore, but the outcome has more than one possibility.

Who plays games to be cool?

I'm pretty sure the majority of people that play the Gears of War series play them because it's entertaining. I'm one of the people that played the games because I liked the series and thought it was entertaining, not because I wanted to be "cool". I don't know about the "fad" part, but I don't see where you got that "think they are cool for playing it" nonsense.

Not Avatar.

Avatar is a pretty badass movie actually, just like all of James Cameron's work. Everyone has their own opinion, and yours is yours. GoW doesn't work for me, and CoD is definitely horrible. A long cut scene about some lame war scenario that requires button presses to get through. What a great experience. Yet it seems to be for many, and yeah, it's probably due to hype.

Really Portal 2 has the best game story...?! Sure it's a great game and has a basic but fluent story to back it up but there are game with incredible storylines out there, with a lot more depth and strength than Portal.

Indigo prophecy (US) or Farenheit (rest of the world)

Really? A guy who gets superhuman abilities from being exposed to an ancient mayan energy as a fetus and fights (matrix style) a mayan priest and an android from the future in order to rescue a prophesized girl who never speaks but is about to reveal the universes greatest secrets with her first words? Oh and he bangs his ex gf/wife and the cop girl whos hunting him while he's at it. Yes that is truly a masterpiece of writing.
