Diablo 3 Team Deathmatch Dropped, PvP Duelling Coming Soon

Diablo 3

If you were keen to check out Blizzard's upcoming Team Deathmatch multiplayer mode for Diablo 3, you're in for a dissapointment as unfortunately, the game mode has been shelved for now. However, to put some pep back in your step, the publisher has announced that in the upcoming 1.07 patch, PvP duelling will make an appearance.

Apparently the reason for the scrapping of the Team Deathmatch mode, or at the very least a significant delay is, acording to lead designer Jay Wilson, because it is "not up to the quality that Blizzard gamers expect or that we feel you deserve." Apparently when it comes to ""simply fighting each other with no other objectives or choices to make [it] gets old relatively quickly" and that most "didn’t feel like it was something they’d want to do beyond a few hours."

This announcement was made yesterday on the official Diablo blog, where he also said that in the next patch, that will arrive "sometime after the new year," players will get to duke it out in a duel. He did reiterate that likely Team Deathmatch would appear at some point in the future, but that it wouldn't be in its current form. Apparently developers are working on making it more of an objective based game, which sounds like its pushing into MOBA territory.

For those of you who visited Blizzcon, you'll already have had a play with the Team Deathmatch mode. Is it something that needed shelving? Or could you have seen it as part of the game experience?
