EA CEO Admits They Have ‘Dropped The Ball’

During his speech at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, EA CEO John Riccitello admitted that EA "has dropped the ball" at the start of this console generation, but noted that they have been recovering after they formulated and adopted new strategies that lead to them being "one of the fastest growing businesses in the industry today."

"Through this last transition to the PS3 era, Xbox 360, Wii - for a whole bunch of reasons that aren't worth getting into in a short answer, I think it's fair to say we dropped the ball," he admitted. "Our IP deteriorated, our costs went up, and we didn't really have an answer for the rise of digital."

"Over the last three years, we've made a dramatic number of changes, which can be described as part turnaround, part transformation. The turnaround has been cutting our title slate in half and dramatically strengthening our intellectual property portfolio. I think we have the strongest IP portfolio, by far, in the industry today."

"At the same time we have been managing costs aggressively and we have built a leading position, a broad base, in digital gaming. Whether it's mobile, strength in social networks, microtransaction-based services, game services. This past year, we recorded over $700 million in purely digital revenue streams."

Riccitellio then noted that "the core market for high definition gaming is a huge and fast-growing one" which EA will continue to focus on and leverage to create new IPs (Intellectual Properties) which would then spread to other platforms.

The EA CEO also braised the micro-transactions model which he described as "play first, pay later."

EA pays the bill for others

ea isnt well known for making games EA just helps pay the bills for other companies like bioware and people can fly or visceral games so they can make the game what they want with backed up resouces. i dont remember which company stated that if it wasnt for Ea they wouldnt have be able to push out their product.

Blu ray sucks?

what are you blind? no visual difference? Just because you guys can't get with the times and want to be stuck in the 90's doesn't mean technology is gonna give two shits about you. This is how the world works, everything progresses, (unlike your brains). The price of Blu ray will drop and has already dropped significantly since its inception. Get some money together you cheap shits. Rollover or die and don't get in the way, you morons.

BLU-RAY SUCKS

Yes they do!
But to say that; HD-ready is just the same as, HD, is, just stupid, bordering on the insane! (my own meaning, for the moment)
As it goes for 2 times the price, what is the price for a CD nowadays? is it not the same as when it came out in the early 90'? since then we have seen both DVD's, not to forget HD-DVD, & BD's, now we are starting to hear about BD-XL's,
and if we don't destroy the world, we will see Holographic discs in about 5 to 10 years from now, wich will coincide with the release of Super High resolution Video or SHV, a 4 by 4 times resolution increase!

I will not get surprised if they are still selling Freaking CD's when they release HVD's.
We have gotten to: 128GB disc(BDXL), & still we are producing CD's(0,7-0,9GB), a dangerously outdated format when compared to BDXL!

HATING ON RIP OFF EA GAMES

EA STOP RIPPING US OFF AND LET GAMES IN AUSTRALIA BE MAX 50 BUCKS, NOT MAX 120 BUCKS!!!! THIS GOES OUT TO ALL GAME DEVELOPERS!!! IF YOU WANT TO STOP PIRATING CUT YOUR PRICES IN HALF. IT COSTS U 1 DOLLAR TO MAKE THE GAME ANOTHER DOLLAR TO ADVERTSISE IT AND 1 MORE DOLLAR FOR SHIPPING SO WHY AM I PAYING 120 BUCKS!!!!

Thats dumb...

How on earth did u estimate the cost of producing a game as 1$? or for that matter advertising, another 1$? Economies of scale woulnt reduce the cost so low... In any case, im not sure if they cud justify selling a game at 120$, but never the less how on did u justify piracy?
Thats like you saying, because i cant afford to buy a car, and it may be being sold for more than its cost price....so that gives people the right to steal it.
Further more, its demand and supply that effect the price of any product.

making a game doesn't costs 1

making a game doesn't costs 1 dollar you stupid fuck. it takes years to make 1 with over 50 guys working on it, most of them are dedicated professionals and very expensive, also the artists, music, hardware, especially designed software, all the taxes and etc. if the game costs 50 to 120 i say its a bit risky, if they don't sell those games to millions of players they'l loose years of paying ppl to work for nothing.

It cost them 1 fucking dollar

It cost them 1 fucking dollar per person buying it you fucking retards. My god the internet allows you to see who the dumb fucks are.

If a game sells well it cost about $5 per person to ship the disk and get it advertised and sold. The margins on a successful game are massively high. Games are a fucking ripoff. They deserve piracy. Move to apple's app pricing or slightly more and you will sell a fucktonne. $20 max. There needs to be regulation on pricing.
