jc456- spec wise until now the G70 looks much weaker than the R520 but its all in the ALU power so we will have to wait and see..both will be very good though

Anonymousat 15:6 11/6/2005 if the specs are true for the high-end ATI part, then it will beat the G70 outright.8 more pipelines....600mhz clock speed. Thats 170mhz more speed. Clock speed is not much of a impact as seen with past gpu's. The 9700 vs. the 5800. The 5800 had more clock speed however, the 9700 pro was faster. The x800 vs. the 6800. The X800 has higher clock speeds however they are basically the same in most cases. However, with more pipelines as seen. Pipelines and vertex shaders make the difference. And the R520 if those specs are true, hold such a force over the G70 on 110nm. Just by the numbers. The R520 will be faster all around. I cannot see a 24 pipeline part coming close to a 32 pipeline part with 170mhz clock speed advantage.

compare the the 7800 with the X900 at the bottom only, they didnt say anything bout the GT or Ultra or anything for that matter

Nvidia is plaing their cards right this time around. They are releasing this 24 pipe version card now, where as ATI will be releasing their cards in the fall. Meaning by then nvidia can release a 32 pipe solution or more. So not only will they have the 24 pipe solution card sales from over the summer, but then they will possibly have a better card pushed out right at ATI's release.

Just to denote:Right now as released in a leaked ATi release-- they are having major problems with the boards carrying the 32 pixel pipeline.Suprising enough, I think that ATI will not be able to conquer that issue until the end of the last quarter (dec.). Performance wise, if ATI does what they say they will do:32 pixels per clock90nm TechThey will throw nVidia into a heap of hell! If nVidia get's the SLI2 and 7800s into gear, they can pull off a single side performance miracle until the x9-- hits the market.Without a doubt, nVidia is about to pull an FX nostalgic marketing ploy!They NEED to release another card as soon as the 7800 makes the public eye for they will not be crowned king of 3dMark05.ATi will take the cake-- IF and ONLY IF they can get that wonderful piece of equipment working, and also fully compatible with Crossfire.They may make me a beleiver this generation, but I want to see what happens. To recap:We are SURE about the 7800 right now, so I cannot say "apples and oranges"...Just be sure to think about the fact that we do not know the impact with Unreal Engine 3 these cards are going to have-- we PC gamers may have to play a PS3 to enjoy the graphics because of the may-be shortcomings of the cards. All of nVidia's efforts went to the PS3-- so we may be in a shitty suprise by them as a PC user!

Looking at the specs ATI has killed Nvidia's G70. G70 is only a refresh where as ATI is releasing a whole new family of cards for all segments. ATI is the smart one to let Nvidia deal its card first. 10 shader engines WTF the R520 is a monster. Its not like ATI hasn't launched anything they have just introduce CrossFire, the G70 will only have a few week head start over the R520. However I am sure that the R520 will have better availablity since ATI has re-spinned it and tapped it out ages ago.

Also the reason why the G70 didn't go 90nm is because Nvidia had trouble with it. ATI seems to be doing fine with it. Hopefully we can get our hands on these babies.

It's always been the same story. nVidia goes first because they think they can win over customers. But the marketing they use is complete CRAP. ATI on the other hand has always been smart by not giving out raw information untill late in the card's building process. Now ATI knows what nVidia has to offer. ATI can work the weak points out and reinforce the strong ones in order to dominate over the market, like they did ever since the Fx and 9xxx series came to us. Final thoughts from a neutral point of view? ATI will have to meet a disaster in order to lose crown.

dont get me wrong, im an ATI fan, but why the hell are they holding back. I personally dont mind upgradeing a vid card for 800$ if id know i wouldnt have to do it every next year

So this is the gpu being used in the ps3 right?? holy shit the r500 beats the shit out this thing if the specs are right. I am man who doesn't care about company or hype i buy what i like and what has the most bang for its buch. I think it will be interesting to see how sony will explain how exactly its system can produce better graphics. The R500 is way ahead of this thing and it has the pipelines to use it's power 48 to 24, and yes 48 piplines are offical specs on the r500 for the xbox. And i don't see how ati is having trouble with its 32 pipe cards when they have already shipped the r500(the xbox 360 beta kits were sent to bungie and probaly everyone else.

Doesn't matter since only 95% of people here will buy it 5 years from now and the newest cards at that time would make these cards look like crap.

The point is that nVidia have have only released their specs for their lower range card, as its not stated to be Ultra, GT or what ever names they use for the higher end cards.Saying this, you can only realy compare it to the X900.

2 things:1) nVidia has had some talks about changing the naming sytem of thier cards and that Ultra will no longer repesent the highest model. But letterings such as GFX and such would be used. Check net for more info...2) I dont belive that next generation ATi card will be called X900 as we know the previouse generation was called 9000 and this generation was suppose to be 10000 but ATi chose to go with Roman Numerals to shorten the name, X stands for number 10 in roman. So if something as big as completly new core is being released they arent gonna add a 100's on the name but a 1,000. So the name could actually be Xi800 or Xi700, Xi or XI meaning 11.

@fanboy:7800 is called 7800 because it is nvidias new highend series, and as you should know, it is the seventh generation of geforce cards that explains "7". the 800 stands for high-end (600 for midrange, 200 for low range). think twice before typing...

Moreover, to clock it higher AND put 8 more pipelines on the card on 110nm will prove almost impossible. As for ATI having issues with 90nm process, the did. This is why it's taped out the 2nd time. Almost all the issues are corrected. What rumors are flying around regarding this are coming from Nvidia and Nvidia sources. Until all cards are out, then we will know for sure. But just by looking at the specs here. If those are true, the R520 will be faster all around. The only way Nvidia will comabt this is releasing the G70 on 90nm. By then also ATI will refresh the R520 part.

The huge performance gains the 6800gt gets over the 5900fx is from the increased pipelines the 6800gt has. 6800gt has 16. The 5900fx has 4(8) pipelines. This is why a R520 running 32 pipelines will run faster then a 24 pipeline part. Thats 8 more pipelines. The X800pro with 12 pipelines was no match for the 6800gt. And that was only a 4 pipeline difference. A full 8 will make a huge difference.

Even if Nvidia release a 90nm version of their chip, it still won't be able to compete with the R520, simply because the R520 has 10 shader engines. It would requirer a whole design change. I like how ATI has just one GPU for their whole line, and just enable and disable features and clock speeds. Nvidia tried 90nm but had design challenges and decided to go 110nm.

All this is marketing bullshit is aimed at making people fall into it. And you guys are a good example of that. These "High-end" cards are a luxury few people can afford. I run on a geForce 4 ti 4200 o'ced and I'm more than satisfied with it.

I still play the latter myself. the newer games use at least PS2.0 (deus ex 2, far cry, half life 2, starwars republic commando, etc). I'm specifically interested in upgrading my ATI 9600pro for a fudo card so I can play games based on the upcoming unreal 3 engine.I'm pretty sure those who bought Nvidia's SLI system are kicking themselves, they probably bought it in advance for unreal3 but one ATI fudo card already slaps the crap out of SLI. investment loss right there. they should have just waited and stuck with their PS2.0 compliant cards they had lmao.

guy belowsame here man, i got a 9800 pro, and im getting an r520 basically just for unreal 3 games. and yeah, sli was a very crappy investment...the first thing is it's only the exact same card, same brand, and its really expensive. personally, if u pay that much to have 2 cards, its not worth it. Now even if this r520 is about 6-700 dollars, its still worth it because sli still costs more, plus the r520 (XT) is rumored about 3x as good as a single card, so 2x as good as sli (since sli doesnt even give 2x performce, more like 1.5-1.75max)ive nvr had a voodoo card, but i do know they were beastly cards, same with nvidias old cards, keyword 'old'. Im willing to spend money as long as its a good investment = ATi = r520 XT maybe PE

Dont confuse R520 with X360's R500 they are two comletley differnt chips, and R500 is owned by Microsoft not ATi, ATi just designed it.In terms of performance R500 is 4 or 5 times as powerfull as either R5200 or G70

Take a look at this site which tells the r500 specs[url removed] they are euivielent with the x900 XT-PE except it is designed to work with specific hardware to get better performce and it has 10MB od EDRAM, other than that the two x900 and r500, are identical in performance. and by the time the xbox360 is released around this holiday, ati will have already presented the rehash of it with updated speeds and it will already be outdated.

ati is very smart, they dont pull 'nvidia's' trying to get their card out first and ruining it by working some advanced feature too fast (COUGH FX SERIES COUGH) they are smart enough to realize that if they wait longer and release better hardware thats more stable, they will be better off. I guarentee these new nvidia cards will have SOMETHING wrong because nvidia rushed the release or something

If the G70 had 1024MB DDR3, 700Mhz Core,2000Mhz Mem, 64 Pipes and PS_4&VS_4...Ati's visual guality will still kick NVidia's asses

They are bringing these chips out far too quickly for the normal consumer to keep up and soon people will start to think if F.E.Ar. runs on highest with AA and Af on high at 50 fps do i reallly need that card that will put it up by 50 fps and i could rather use the money for lets say morgagethis is the only concern that i have my 9600Xt does this in hl on High and i dont need the 6800 or the 78000gtx as games dont require it so why bother

Is the g70 they're talking about just the normal 7800? Cause there would be like an ultra version and stuff wouldnt there? So if they do go up to ultra then i guess geforce aint gonna be crap. If it is the normal 7800 then it is pretty powerful concidering it is not saying its an ultra or a gt.
