Most gamers are familiar with the various problems that accompanied the XBox 360 launch. Most issues were overheating related but some owners of the first next-gen console did complain about their game discs being scratched.

Microsoft swiftly responded to complaints claiming that the console should not be moved if it was ON and a disc was in the drive but the company also suggested that there were very few such complaints. It appears however, that the number of complaints may have been underestimated as GameFly, the subscription-based rental service, has decided to react to the increasing number of damaged X360 disc returns.

According to Gamasutra, GameFly has already started sending out warning letters to X360 owners who return scratched discs. The letter states:

We have received reports that certain XBOX 360 consoles have caused damage to GameFly videogames. Unfortunately, we have been notified that you recently returned a damaged XBOX 360 game.

As a precaution, we have removed all XBOX 360 games from your GameQ. Please contact Microsoft at 1-800-4MY-XBOX. Please do not rent XBOX 360 games until you have resolved this issue.

In the future, should GameFly receive XBOX 360 games from you that have been damaged, you will be charged a replacement fee.

It is not clear how many such letters have been sent out by GameFly and the company has not yet responded to questions but if you are a subscriber to the service and have received such a letter from them please let MegaGames know so that we can begin to gauge the scale of the problem.

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Me and my cousin both received an XBOX360 for christmas and each of us had Scratched disks and overheating machine which seems to freeze our game or maybe it was just the game but i think it was our machines. Microsoft tech just dances around the problem and exactly just as your article states they told us nonsense about moving the machine while its loading. I can assure you I never moved my machine. In fact it seems if you place a fan next too the console so it doesnt overheat the vibration is in fact enough to cause some scratching. Its obvious this machine needs an overhaul. I can move my oc turn it side ways and even bang the front of my oc and i have yet to simulate a scratched cd. I'm not happy at all with my console i feel as tho i have gotten a rotten piece if hardware. So MegaGames. Add 2 of us to your list. :-(

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Btw: By (OC) i meant Pc......small typo. Harley

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Scratched disks are caused by user error, if you are stupid enough to move your console while its on then you deserve to be paying a replacement fee, too bad deal with it.

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Hmmm, ending my life is very tempting, TBH I am a stupid moron, who has nothing better to do than wait for a new article on MegaGames and getting first post, I suppose the only reason I do it is because I get sexually aroused everytime I do it. I think I was dropped on my head too many times as a child. BTW i'm 10 years young! ;)

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

What if some of the dvd readers were poorly manufactured and vibrate on their own, thus scratching the disks and making techs think someone is moving the console while its on. Damn MS they never do anything properly.

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Is like some CD roms that tend to run the CD while ejecting, bad system, even so they do that when something is running at the same time. Still, theres no stop button that i know of in the X360, to stop it you have to shut it down.

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

And is a poor excuse about moving the console, since to scratch the CD inside you have to bang the console or shake it violently to make it jump and scratch the surface of the Cd deck. Also speed can shake the console, like some PC's in school that shakes the desk.

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

I got a X360 last Monday, bought PGR for it and today it has a scratch!I live in Europe and thought It could be a problem that wouldnt afect me and I didnt moved the xbox from its own desk (I bought a desk just for the xbox and the hdtv) since I bought it and never, NEVER while it was open or with a disk inside. Also, while I am playing, sometimes I see some glitches on the screen (I think they are little squares) and the box gets very hot after 5 hours. Is this normal???

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Um, yeah it's normal.

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

If gamefly has made a point to refuse service to people who scratch faulty Xbox360 consoles then it is a problem. I would honestly simply blame microsoft for rushing the console before real testing. If the dont improve this soon people will stop buying the console because they dont want banged up cd's and no way to back them up..

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Dont blame microsoft, you should take more care of your disks!!And if you dont like the X360, thats your own problem, other people dont wanna hear your s**t

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Well u people are lyers I run my shop at EB games in North bay Ontario and I haven't even got a single 1 reterned. also played the 1 we have up all day! nothing wrong with it! so people plz stop spreading rumors just cause u have a rich daddy and are rich snobs. u know who I am talking about

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Remember this: NEVER PURCHASE A 1ST GENERATION CONSOLE.If you are the type of person that MUST have the new toy on the block to prove that you have the biggest p***s, then you get what you deserve. When new consoles are released, the 1st generation systems ALWAYS have issues. The only exception was the N64. This is why you wait until the unit has been in production for at least 1 year..that way all or most issues would have been ironed out.

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Tufo what ur saying isnt quite true. Yea if u buy a brand new console u risk it having problems but that level of risk is still quite small. Ive bought the N64, Xbox and Xbox360 all within 1 week of their launch and ive never had any problems with any of those consoles.

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Well, pretty much all PS2's I've dealt with and had at work for demo scratch their games. This is due to bad design and cheap parts. What the hell do you expect to have for a $150 machine? Same thing with x360, even MS can't conjure super gaming machine from a thin air. Be real folks, if you won't a problem free console go with Nintendo. If you want a super gaming rig, shell out some money and build a PC. This is reality, if you can't afford a good rig, quit being a teenage b***hy n00b (oh wait, isn't this site made for these exact people?).

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

I dont want to see, hear or speak of MICROSOFT EVER AGAIN! They piss me right off! Sitting on top of the world with the crap products they make and sell to stupid f**king assholes like the rest of you. MICROSOFT = BIG MONIES BUT NO IDEAS. ->(just look at windows rofl)

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Wouldn't it be ironic, if Microsoft tried to make their system shock proof by putting springs into the DVD reader, but used cheap springs which now mover around even thoe the system isnt. And the from what i know some systems do have some type of spring in their readers...Iv bashed a few ps1 apart to look inide. And if you use a spring that is tooo soft it could just move around from the spining disk alone... Either way I am a pc guy, and havnt baught...or though of bying a console in about 4 years...ever since i baught my dreamcast 3 month before they plumited :(

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

You a all saying diferent things I dont know what is true or false WTF. Get a Nintendo and PC otherwise rip off.

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

if gamefly used the DVD/CD covers it might help some but it seems the 360 is chalked full of problems.

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Lol screw then saying thay wood charged a replacement fee lmao thay culd kiss my ass and take it up with MS i never rent games or movies due to if any thaing happens to then thay want a replacement fee witch is oweys like 80$ way more than the dam movie and like 120$ for a game lmao Also mega games culd you make this f**king input tex actoly clear so i dont have to redo it like 50 times b***hes

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

the nintendo reovlution will be great for lan parties cause is small and easy to carry, not a heavy machine like the PS3 or the X360 P.S.: Is not about graphics, its about gameplay :)

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

yeah and no HDTV needed :D

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

i read that all rev games will be full online play, that means every game will be played online and in single player too :D no heat, low power consumption, Reflective metal built, no lloudly fan and it will cost $140 ~ $180 100%CONFIRMED

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

Your missing the point though, Nintendo make the same sort of games over and over. It can be as cheap and small as you want, but the release titles are still going to send me to sleep.

GameFly Warns Over X360 Scratches

I think YOUR missing a point.Same type of games over and over?Halo..unreal..tomb raider..project gotham..prince of persia..fifa soccer..final fantasy..resident evil..doom..hitman..gran turismo.Truth is if a game is good or popular then follow ups will usually be made.
