Last week it was Bill Gates claiming that Halo 3 would be ready in Spring 2006, in time to ruin Sony's PS3 launch party; now Robbie Bach, Microsoft senior vice president and chief Xbox officer, has decided to cast some doubt over those comments.

In a cover story on Time magazine last week, Bill Gates in apparent ecstatic mood was asking readers to picture a day when ...Sony launches, and they walk right into Halo 3. That story, tying in well with the XBox 360 hype at E3, must have generated a positive buzz regarding Microsoft's future console prospects.

Now that E3 has been and gone, the waters need some muddying and the first volunteer was Robbie Bach who in no uncertain terms decided to put the Microsoft Chairman in his place, The World's throne I assume, as he stated ...with all respect to Bill, I don't run Bungie's studio, and neither does he. We'll work with the Bungie guys and let people know, when they have something to announce. So Bungie doesn't belong to the rest of the world which Mr. Gates apparently does run.

What seems a bit more surprising is that Mr. Bach also stated that We haven't announced anything on what Bungie is doing or where we're going with the future of the 'Halo' franchise... Such a statement could raise some doubt as to whether Bungie is planning a clear sequel to Halo or some kind of spin-off while another possibility will be a quick numerical jump straight to Halo 360.

To clarify, I bought an XBox just for playing Halo 2 on Live. The system itself came with a pack-in copy of Mechassault: Lone Wolf, and Links 2004, neither of which I've even touched. I rented Doom III, but got sick of it and played for only three days out of the seven day rental.I think fanboys are a waste of space and time. Saying you think one system is good and another is not... well that's an opinion, but it should be put in the context of the particular article being discussed. Otherwise you look like the little boy that you are.I prefer Nintendo, I bought a Gamecube years ago, when it first came out, and still rather like it. And it's good that the games can appeal to whoever I am going out with at the time. Shit, when mario Kart came out, me and my girl at the time played that damn thing to hell.Now with halo 2, well... I play it to death, and my new girlfriend sort of sits around and enjoys watching me play and get all worked up when I'm raping the little fanboys.I got way off topic here... hmmm, back to the bottle I go.

They seriously think the release of a game is going to take away the thunder from the release of the PS3?Are they insane?How can they expect a game (although a great one) to take away sales from one the most anticipated console launches ever?I mean, Halo is a really good game but I think they are putting all their eggs in one basket on this one.If Halo 3 is their definition of what the future of X-Box is then I guess that translates into their future being just more of the same.More of the same things we have already seen and done.The X-Box and X-Box 260 seem to love the first person shooter genre alot.Do they know what variety is?Thats how the PS2 was able to beat the original X-Box.The PS2 had a bigger and better variety of games to choose from.Im not a fanboy of either one but the facts speak for themselves.

Hmmmm, without Halo would the Xbox exist? My answer would have to be yes, would it be successful? Hells no. I'm a PS2 and pc gamer all the way, but I like my Halo 2 on Xbox whenever I get together with friends. I don't own an Xbox but when the opportunity rises to play a game of Halo I'm in.Xbox lost to PS2 this round because they only have a handful of games compared to thousands, Xbox will lose to PS next round for the same reasons combined with their lack of backward compatibility. Yes, you read me right, no playing your Xbox games on your 360. Look at the hype, PS3 has promised backwards compatibility as has Revolution, but Xbox hasn't said shit. Wonder why...

Anon at 7.21, I haven't bothered to read your link and I doubt I ever will but it has already been brought to my attention several times that the Xbox 360 would feature some of the "best" Xbox games in some kind of converted format, probably a mere emulation.That is NOT backward comapatibility.

No good games for xbox other than halo? There are alot of other good games for xbox. Like kotor and fable is okay and how about elder scrolls 3. I have play all 3 consoles and found I like xbox the best. It has a wide range of games that I find entertaining. So who ever says xbox doesn't have enough good games should take a better look

Umm, not much to say except... Why in f**k do you want backward compatability? I mean, it sounds great, but the whole reason for buying the new console is to get new stuff, if you want your old games, don't play the new console. I have a PS2 and an Xbox. Even before my PS2 started collecting dust for 2 years I never played PS games on it, why would I want to play an inferior game, anyway? On an unrelated note, my PS2 collects dust because the Xbox has almost everything over it, the only thing that the PS2 has on it's side is the selection of games. And it only has that because it had a year head start on the Xbox and already had a fanbase. The popularity of Xbox 360 and PS3 should be an interesting thing to see... Finally, yes, the Halo 3 release will take some heat off of the PS3 release, but not as much as ol' Bill would like to think. As I said, it should be interesting. Let's try to keep this conversation halfway mature people.

Ok people, let's find some light here.I'm a PS2 player and soon to be ps3 (hopefully) I do not like the people saying that xbox sucks and so does Halo. I do not want to be part of a gaming commnity like that, I thought you PS people were above that!Halo is an XTREMELY amazing game. Those who like it love it. Those who don't like it hate it. XBOX 360 is going to bring the death of any future microsoft consoles. PS3 will own the world, and it should.HALO is one shitty game. It doesn't bring antyhing genuine to the genre. And one more thing, playing FPS games on consoles is a fkd up idea anyway.Microsoft will have to come up with at least 3 or 4 killer appz if they want to stand a chance against the ps3. Wait until there finally is a game for both the ps3 and the x3, 360 will look like a calculator.

You idiots!How can any of you hope to compare these systems?One, the ps3...doesnt even exist yet, the rsx hasnt been finished yet...the cell has only been alpha in ibm's labs, and sony has yet to retrofit the osaka manufacuring plant to produce anything!But on the other hand, the fudo is done, and people were playing on pre xbox360 hardware..no prerendered video like sony had done.. but real output.The xbox360 is ready..there has been no "devs" putting the xbox360 down, if anything all devs are excited to work with such similar hardware in three systems...You know they did that for a reason..dont you?IBM it's self admits"there will be a great deal of interpolation" meaning all three chips with behave in very similar ways.For those who speak english as a native language, you might understand what im saying..to those who dont speak english nativly..look up the word "rube"...Because thats what you are if you jump on the sony bandwagon so early.
