GeForce 8800 Ultra Hits the Stores Ahead of Schedule

About a week ahead of original schedule, Nvidia's latest and strongest DirectX 10 card has already hit the stores in Japan and USA.

The new GeForce 8800 Ultra offers a 10% to 15% performance increase over its predecessor the GeForce 8800 GTX, according to Nvidia's official reports. But for this 10% to 15% performance gain, consumers are supposed to pay more than 33% price increase, since Nvidia has priced the new card at $829 and higher.

Several stores in the U.S. now sell Nvidia GeForce 8800 Ultra-based graphics cards from BFG Technologies and EVGA at price points starting from $830 per board. And Japanese web-sites report that GeForce 8800 Ultra graphics cards from Point of View company are available in Tokyo, Japan for ¥128000 (approximately $1070).

The price will drop a fair amount in the next couple months. It is still getting harder and harder to argue PC gaming vs. Console gaming though. More developers are releasing games on the consoles first then providing us PC gamers with a crappy port. TBH, if MS, Sony, and Nintendo would just throw in Native Keyboard and Mouse support.... I think that could be one of the final nails in the coffin for PC Gaming.

Ahhh, see heres the delima. Consoles have (up until recent years) only been about having a fun game (GO WII!) to play. Pcs have always been bleeding edge. Gosh, I remember playing mario and sonic and they were just fun!! Now everyone is so concerned about getting the best graphics etc. Yeah thats important, but thats like giving a supermodel the crown based on her personality.

HAHAHA. My friend purchased one from ncix. He wasnt impressed. Gothic 3 still lags under this card at 1600/1200. What a waste of money. Cards these days are barely able to play high end games released months previous to the release of these crads. Either the drivers are just that bad or cards are getting too the point they can't keep up with the gametechnology. Looks like u need 2 of these to play crisis / oblivion etc etc. Take it from me. Get a ps3 or xbox 360. These cards just dont provide much more power then the previous cards. On paper they sound powerful but in reality they are mear speed bump improvements over the last cards.
