Half-Life 2 Moving to Arcade

Half-Life 2 is about to make the move to arcades all over Japan by the summer of 2005, with the rest of the world expected to join-in soon after. According to Taito, its Type-X arcade board will be able to support the game while it will also offer a variety of features not seen before in arcade games.

The Type-X board is based on a PC setup, running a version of Windows, so H-L 2 will not have to travel far to get to it, especially since the arcade version will be very similar to the PC version being released in a couple of weeks time. One of the selling points of the arcade Half-Life 2 will be the introduction of the online multiplayer modes.
According to Taito, gamers will be able to connect to and challenge other gamers playing the same game across Japan. Two online modes will be available, the confrontational Battle mode and the co=operative Mission mode. Online play will be made possible due to Taito's Net Entry System (NETSYS)which will also feature in arcade games such as Battle Gear 3 and Zoid Infinity. One of the advantages of NETSYS is its ability to store data at server level, enabling gamers to recall their profile from any connected arcade machine.

Taito has big plans for the arcade version of H-L 2, plans which include online play, a game booth offering 5.1 sound and its introduction to arcades all over the world. Details of the control set-up or of the exact dates the machines will appear in Japan and all over the world, have not yet been released.

"HL2 can only be truely appreciated on a computer with good specs!!!!!! "Wtf are you smoking crack or what.I wouldnt be suprised if hl 2 was ported to ps 2 and x box, why?Well lets put it this way, why do you think half life 2 is like 3-4 gb? Because of all the uncompressed crap so a computer has to use the full power to play the game.If the game was optimized though and compressed and etc etc it could easily be played on a console system. Its all about how the developers design the game and how it works.People just assume that a computer game wont be on a console yet by the next year its on a console. or the same time.Half life 2 is cool but its not that impressive that it cannot be ported to a console.

I agree and i just want to clear up how sad a lot of americans are for voting for 2 sad individuals. ok Kerrys not too bad but bush hes a f**king joke! he cares about money and uper class people! he thinks hes god and can act like a god my bombing innocent people!if you are american id say vote for kerry but as i am not [thankgod too many guns].If bush is voted in again i will laugh at america for living in a little box and not wanting to move out of it! guns dont protect you you fools they kill your family accidentaly!its such a shame that such a grand country with such power doesnt really take responsibilty for its actions!

its great being an american. sucks i have to share it with narrow-minded and stubborn hillbillies who wont give up their rifles. they LOVE to quote from the [outdated and 'arcaic'] bill of rights and say it is their God-given right to bear arms. i say just add another amendment and get guns off the streets (and boonies)

one more thing.. i read at a msg board that hl2 xbox port was given a projected release date at amazon.com.. may 2005 i believe.. i do not believe we will see it on the ps2 since its graphic processor is way underpowered and i dont think the ppl at valve ever said anything about the possibility of porting the game over to ps2

CRITICAL NEWS FLASH!!! The source to HL2 Arcade has been hacked. Sorry, but HL2's release across all platforms will now be postponed until 2006... or 2005 if you 1337 hax0rz are good little boys. Bye for now, I'm going to eat some donuts. :)

4 reasons why this will fail in japan: 1) japanese ppl hate fps. theyd rather play rpgs and silly shit starring doe-eyed anime chics. 2) arcades are still thriving in japan BUT consoles are still #1 3) its pc/windows based. if the arcade board was a derivative of ps3 or something japanese then it might work. 4) did i mention japanese ppl like silly shit starring anime girls with pink hair?

whats wrong with hl2 on xbox? itll be dope! you wont need some high-powered, power supply killing, ram munching, overly priced graphic card beast to play it. hopefully theyll integrate coop and dm on the xbox version.. oh and who gives a monkey shit about linux? its only praised by ppl who dont like microsoft since its a huge, highly successful corp. i dont need an alternative. im happy with windows, office, and ie..

I wonder if we will get they co-op and dm on the pc version at some stage? If they just put it on arcade thats just stupid. Mind you I still think what actually kept HL1 alive was the mods not its 'great' multiplayer. Seriously I played about 5-10 hours total of the original HL multiplayer.I can't wait for HL2 on PC.

This is definately a different idea. I'm not surprosed the Japs decided to go into this direction however, ther are very inventive when it comes to these things. I will be looking forward to the day when I will be strolling thorugh my local video arcade and see "Half Life 2" next such games as 'TimeCrisis".:D

"Just to let u know the main factor that X-box and PS2 don't need as much power to play games is because of the reduced resolutions of the textures. Game companys can do this without even being told off for it too much because a lot of people still have the traditional analog TV and cannot afford a HDTV in which they would see the difference. For example when a plug my computer into the analog TV it doesn't matter if i have anti-aliasing on or not because there aren't enough pixels to see the difference anyway.Sure consoles are cheaper but i'll stick to computer because of their graphics, moddability, upgrade ability, mouse, cable internet, and LCD screen to go with it.HL2 can only be truely appreciated on a computer with good specs!!!!!!
