Konami Promises 'Visually Intense' Saw Game

With the sixth title in the series approaching, most fans believe that the Saw franchise is gradually losing steam but Konami believes that it can turn this around with it upcoming video game adaptation.

"Because we have leadership in the survival horror genre, we're passionate about it and wanted to find another property on par with Silent Hill," said Konami director of marketing David Daniels. "Saw has grossed over $600 million worldwide and sold over 16 million DVDs, so we felt like it was a great opportunity to align ourselves with one of the most successful horror film franchises in history."

Konami picked up the rights to Saw after it original publisher, Brash Entertainment, went bankrupt last fall.

"One of the big pillars of Saw is the maniacal, twisted serial killer Jigsaw's very unusual traps and you can expect that's something we'll carry forward," Daniels explained. "Some traps will even be a direct translation from the movies, particularly the iconic ones fans love."

Saw game is set for concurrent launch along with Saw VI's theatrical release later this year. Daniels promised that the game will be as gory as the movies have ever been. "Silent Hill is more about psychological terror, but Saw for us is more about graphic, intense horror that overwhelms you," he said. "We want players to turn away from the screen for just a moment because of the visual intensity."
