Not afraid of being perceived as arrogant, id Software creative director Tim Willits claimed that comparing the studio's upcoming FPS (First Person Shooter) "Rage" to other popular titles is like a fine steak to a McDonald's meal.
"We invented deathmatch, but when we looked at Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein and now Rage, we didn't want to follow the same formula that we have done for the past 20 years," he said. "So we wanted to make both the single player experience and the multiplayer experience of Rage stand on its own two feet, and be different from our other titles."
Willits was then asked about the decision to shun competitive multiplayer in favor of story driven co-op in Rage and he admitted that "there's a massive appetite for that sort of thing [competitive multiplayer]; But it's like McDonalds. There's a McDonalds on every street corner, and I love McDonalds, but I don't want to eat McDonalds every day. Sometimes you need to have steak."

Meh
Lets us hope we not "Outraged" by all the wait!
Daikatana. haha. I think
Daikatana. haha. I think the point was that 'John Romero is going to make you his bitch' was the advertising before Daikatana came out. Over-hype and underdevelop is not the way to gain fan support!
I remember being so stoked to
I remember being so stoked to play doom 3, then when i finally got it, i got half way through, thought is was boring, and traded it in for half life 2, which was a much better decision.
id needs to wake up!
ID needs to follow through with their games. All you kids talking about how DNF took too long to come out are whiners. It's been 20 years since ID promised "Commander Keen: The Universe is Toast" and there hasn't even been mention of it from the company.
Meanwhile, Tom Hall - one of the greatest pioneers in Personal Computer gaming - says he will finish the series upon attaining the appropriate intellectual property rights.
I'm never going to be satisfied with id's software until they are humble enough to recall where their roots lie and fulfill their original purpose.
no one but u gives a shit
no one but u gives a shit about commander keen.
Quit whining about Commander
Quit whining about Commander Keen.
I'm quite Commander Keen of
I'm quite Commander Keen of you
New capcha system
As imaginative as it is, making up pay attention to a FUCKING ADVERTISEMENT do get a capcha answer is god damned stupid.
It's the kind of thing that will keep me away from this place.
I....
...what?
Lets see
Lets see now. DNF was suppose to be the best FPS ever. I've been playing it and it's not as good as i thought it would be. Maybe because the expectation is so high for that game. I game gave it an 8/10 but it could have been a 8.5 or 9/10. Does RAGE claim the same thing? Thats what it sounds like. Lets get real. In my books RAGE will NEVER get a 10/10 from me. It might get an 8 or an 8.5 because i am yet to taste that steak ID is talking about.
I never saw a claim that DNF
I never saw a claim that DNF was going to be earth-shattering. Where do people get this idea? It may have been hyped by to-be CONSUMERS as such, though.
But yes, DNF did end up being a turd. A console-y, generic, boring turd.
Much as i still love FPS gaming, it's become a bit stagnant, but that's to be expected after the huge number of titles that have comes out in the past 20 years... walking around and shooting guys can only do so much.
THough i do liek teh Fallout-esque idea of throwing in some light RPG elements into FPS games.
As usual, I'm skeptical about RAGE. But I'll give msot anythign a shot.
Get it?
For people that followed the
For people that followed the development of DNF on the 3D Realms website ect we were hyped up by the 3D Realms team, they constantly claimed that the game was revolutionary and the most awsome thing ever made, the tralier released back in 2001 really did look like it was living up to these claims as well, the issue with DNF isnt really that its a bad game its that its a Dated Game, if it came out 10 years ago like it should have it would have been great.
Saying this tho I cant forgive them for the 2 Gun limit that isnt Duke at all.
Exactly
Playing the demo, this is the first thing that made me hate what was done to it. Replenishing health, I could deal with. Thats the new thing. But come on... 2 gum limit is retarded with Duke... And I will never forgive Gearbox for doing that. Pitchford is quoted to saying that he wanted to keep it true to Broussard's image, and thats how it always was, but thats a bunch of bull. We all know in 97 that wasnt what anyone wanted. Pitchford knew what had to be done, but he wanted it to be good enough for the new gamers, too, not just the old die hard Duke fans, but by doing so, he messed it up bigtime.
anyway I can't remember not
anyway I can't remember not even one single game developed by Id that hasn't maked history in gaming. If Id wanted to be arrogant, then they would be the only company that actualy could. Maybe Blizzard could also.
Valve, Bethesda.
I like Id's games, but I love Valves ingenuity & Bethesda's story telling & value packed experiences. Id software has neither. Tell me I'm wrong about a company that rips off HL-2's gravity gun. You know they're finding the same proteins in cancer that are found in meat, but not in vegetables? We're not supposed to be carnivores, not even omnivores. All meat is unhealthy. I'm a vegetarian & Id software, get ready to eat your own shit when someone like Valve comes along & hands your ass to you yet again.
Ahem..
The Gravity Gun idea was in at least one other game before Half Life 2. jsut saying..
But yes, Valve games are awesome.
I was trying to find a reason
I was trying to find a reason for your stupidity, then I found it.. You're a vegetarian.
I can remember a few.
Dangerous Dave, Rescue Rover, Hover Tank. You likely haven't heard of these titles from id. Doom 3 made history but for the wrong reasons and will forever live in the shadow of Half-life 2. Don't get me wrong I like id, but they are certainly trying to hype Rage to a point where its not going to live up to the hype. As for Blizzard they have quite a few games in their belt that are forgotten in history. Blackthorne, Rock N' Roll Racing, Justice League are a few. I also like Blizzard but your claims of both them and id are a bit ignorant. No one strikes gold with every swing of a pickaxe.
EEEK
John Romero's Daikatana;
Nuff said
Daikatana was not developed
Daikatana was not developed by ID, it was made by John after he got booted off ID Software.
But....
It was developed by the same ID team, except John, and it takes a team to make a game.
Same with Valve.
Same with Valve.
pfffft
let´s wait and see what we can see. many words were spoken about amazin games. when they came out we mostly was disapointed.
What? Please MEGAGAMES
It looks to me like you guys want to make the man sound arrogant when you know he wasn't.
