Intel fights back by cutting prices

Intel, in an attempt to react to their many recent blunders are releasing a new price list for their CPU's, effective from October 29th. The new Celeron 733 and 766 processors will also be launched the same day.
Pentium 4's which will be available on November 20th are expected to cost $644 for the 1.4 GHz and $819 for the 1.5GHz.
In this way Intel is slowly beginning to approach the prices which AMD has for its range of the faster Athlons.
Intels prices effective October 29th will be:
Pentium 3
1000MHz $465
933MHz $346
866MHz $241
850MHz $241
800MHz $193
750MHz $193
733MHz $183
Celeron
766MHz $170
733MHz $112
700MHz $88

Intel fights back by cutting prices

Intel is always gonna be top notch! All PC gamer/programers uses INTEL when they work to make the bst games. So when the games are published we know that INTEL will be a recommendation! Also all AMD is, is a CLONE of the big daddy processor and thats the INTEL!! O hell Ya!!!

Hey OPP, your a compleate bone head. the AMD is a compleatley different technolegy to the p3. it has on chip cach, and 200MHz bus speed. i sell them both for a living and at the moment AMD take up 75% of the home market. The fact is, INTEL suck ****. AMD are the bollocks. Thats until the p4 comes out when it should be close :@)

Intel fights back by cutting prices

All of you are 'boneheads'.Intel was always the better manufacturer. You dont have any idea why, you just say it sucks! But to tell you the truth ALL AMD cpu's have a higher error rate, and run alot friking hotter than the intel cpu's.Thus Intel cpu's run WAY better with games and other aplications. And they too run better and can be overclocked alot better than the AMD's.

Intel fights back by cutting prices

I have an amd athlon 1.2 ghz and a 700. They do get alot hotter than intel but they can withstand way more heat than intel can and i overclocked my 700 to a 1ghz with a homemade water cooling system and it is workin fine. Intel is a bunch of lies.Did you know that the p3 is 20 percent faster than the p4 and that a dual p3 is 40 percent faster than a dual p4. and that pc133 is alot faster than rd ram even though rd ram is 10 times the price. So sh*tup saltank you dont no sh*t.

Intel fights back by cutting prices

If you want to know the truth, Intel's chip's are a lot better quality than amds, they may be more expensive but you are getting reliablitly and u can overclock them, and yes, it is true that p4 will suck balls, and right now p3 is the best thing you can have.

Oh boy. Here we go. Okay HotDog, why exactly is it that intel's "suck ****"? Huh? Is it because AMD has spend their entire career second sourcing off of intel, and when they come out with their Athlon, which is essentially a copy of the P6 core, it's more able to withstand higher clock speeds because they had more time to integrate newer technology into it? Is that why? Because AMD is so pathetic that they can't think of their own architecture to go by? Is that why AMD is sooooooo good? The FACT of the matter is, is that AMD processors are designed to perform better in synthetic tests (SiSoft Sandra is a good example). You'll notice that a gHz Athlon performs more fpu, mmx, and sse calculations than a P3 gHz. Why? Cuz it's designed to do "theoretical" (for lack of a better term) number crunching. Intel cpus are designed for real world applications. If you put and AMD and an Intel against eachother, both of equal clock speeds, and all other things being equal aside from the motherboard, the Intel cpu will score higher in real world applications, Quake3 being a perfect example. You said that AMD is a completely different technology and that it has on die cache memory. Well yes it does. But in case you didn't know, Intel implemented on die cache memory into their Pentium 3's about six months before AMD decided to do it to their Athlons. And when the Pentium 4 (NOT P4, since it's really a P7) comes out, it will, in the most basic of terms, blow the Thunderbird out of the water. Some websites have test results that say the Pentium 3 is faster than the Pentium 4. This is because the Pentium 4 used for testing was a beta cpu, and really doesn't say much in terms of what the "final version" will be like. So your claim that "it should be close" is far from valid. In fact, it will be far from close, and you will notice a significant difference in performance. And this isn't just due to the cpu. Other factors, like a 400mHz fsb come into play

I still don't like Pentiums due to their built in cookie serial that tracks what a user does while on the net. If they want to track and get information on me they better pay me good money if they want my data for marketing or whatever reasons, nothing is free.Even with their so called "price cuts", Pentium chips are still high compared to AMDs, and their performace is not the best that we can say.Until they remove their built in tracking serial, and until their prices really become affordable, I would begin to purchase a Pentium processor once again, but now, NO WAY, AMD IS THE WAY.

Don't listen to the Pentium people who post their messages here saying that AMD sucks, they only support Pentium because they own stock on the company, that's why they are so butt kissy to it.Due to you ass munchers is that your Pentium chips are expensive.

And everyone who thinks the games that support SIMD instructions run faster, please shut up!SIMD, SIMD+, 3DNow!, 3DNow!+ and all other instruction sets are supported by the two main APIs: OpenGL and Direct3D (Half life, quake 1, 2, 3, Warzone 2100, Starcraft, Moto racer, homeworld, N64 Emulators, Evolva, Devil inside, Deux Ex, to cite a few)Besides, games today don't rely on CPU that much, but more on Graphics cards: Put an Athlon 500 sytem with a Geforce 2 and it still kicks ass.

AMD is gonna die when P4 comes out.You people don't consider that intel is a 50 yr. old company and they surely have some back up plan if push comes to shove. They probably have the architecture ready for the P7 already. They are a big company and don't think for one minute that they didn't plan ahead. AMD don't have this advantage, as they had to attack with new technology just to get to intel's level. They are using their "backup". If intel wanted to they could make AMD wipe the floor, but they want money first.Think the whole thing through next time people.ps. to pentium is hype : don't stereotype 'cause i'm 16 yrs. old. I CAN'T EVEN BUY SHARES YET.

Well I guess amd is good for Competition.. There Both Good chips.. Plus Intel Processors and Amd arn't as good as RISC Chips.. like Sparc.. All Amd and intel do as add some little instrustions and that slow's down the Processor because it has to go throught a list of instructions.. RISC chip's are much better.

I have the p4 prototype, nad I say only one thing, bye bye amdi tested it a p4 1,3g vs the 1,2g amd both had gforce 1 and 128 mb 133mhz ram. the t-bird seemed like a turtle compared to the p4. For further specs check [url removed] needs two more prototype testers, SIGN UP!!!!!!Also a p3 upgrade chip (only for fcpga) is on the way it will do a miracle and u will get a 250 mhz bus and it will fix the over 100mhz problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Intel fights back by cutting prices

ok ok ok... but all that I can say to all you people out-there is that AMD will be relising some new CPU's in the next year which .... sorry to say Intel.. will KICK the P4,, eg AMD Slegehammer which will be runnin in at 2GHz+ .. just thought that I would let you guy's know about that.. (ps, the P4 is still a fast CPU when compared to the older CPU's..eg AMD Athlon!!!)

What the f*ck is HDDropBaud talking about. Does he know anything about CPU's. I doubt it. You are utterly stupid if you think you can compare RISC processors to x86 processors. Horses for courses i'm afraid. If you actually knew anything about the processors you are talking about then you would know that it's called UltraSPARC. You can't say that RISC chips are better, because they are not. They just better at thier job because they are designed to be. Try running Red Alert 2 on an UltraSPARC smart ass.

It doesn't really matter wich of AMD or Intel gets the highest clocked CPU out first. The one that will feature the best set of instructions and chip design/bus connections will definetly have the best raw performance. There's also the implication of software developers to quickly get these new CPU features supported. Intel has always had good "relations" with Microsoft to get their latest things incorporated into Windows or DirectX. I think the linux community could get things really good if they could catch-up quickly with AMD's baby.

seen both cpu's at gamming (both 800mhz)both same cards/hds/ram - although amd- was faster - it still locked up a lot more than p3- i dont care !!! who is the best - but that $$ shure does go far for amd - let them duke it out -- we all will win .. as far as future - if intel does get higher speeds and doesnt allow me to use ( older games, programs ) then I will switch to amd new but compatable cpus - .....

Just bought a P3 500 for around £80 knowing full well intel were reducing there prices... f'kin wish i had waited! Guys what should I do, go dual and get another p3 500 although not many programs have dual processor capability or part-ex and get a faster processor? :(
