Item Copying Rife in Diablo III

More evidence of identical items appearing on different characters has been racking up over on the official Diablo III forums, suggesting that the blatant copying of items is far more widespread than initially predicted.

In one forum post, as many as six wizards have been discovered with the same offhand item. Considering the randomly generated nature of a weapon's name and statistics, it seems incredibly unlikely that even one set of duplicates could appear, but six? All being used in the same manner by characters of the same class? That seems a bit of a stretch.

While all of the offending character profiles found so far have been wizards, it's unknown if this latest Diablo III issue is linked with the previously patched, invincible wizard bug, that saw the class completely impervious to all harm.

As it stands Blizzard hasn't responded to the thread which has already racked up an impressive number of posts from people understandably annoyed at the exploit. However others are questioning the item duplication claims, suggesting that perhaps these are legitimately random drops. These few are quickly shot down by others calling for these players to be banned, but at the time of writing the profiles are still active. Interestingly however, some have removed the offending item, others even going so far as to remove all their character's items altogether - suggesting some measure of guilt, or at least hesitance to show off their rather rare and impressive item; if obtained through traditional means that is.

What do you guys think? Six profiles, with the same bit of gear: item doubling, or just a coincidence?

Acceptance of Cheating

It's interesting what a variety of responses there are. Some yes, some no. As is often the case in public discussions, there's no effort to apply statistics. That might help. But what would really the situation is a different attitude toward cheating. Most often when I bring up the subject of players (or games, themselves) cheating, I get a stony silence. It seems "fringe thinking" to people that games might not follow their own rules. And yet, I've noted many such in popular games such as "Civilization". No, they aren't bugs, they are deliberate features that cause the program to "even the score", when the player is getting too far ahead.

Haha, I love the guy who said that US only has about 1,000 players left. We had a lan party in a small town 2 weeks ago and 124 people with diablo 3 accounts showed up. I live in a town with only 10,000 people in a 30 mile radius. Hard to believe there is only 876 people in the rest of the US. Anyways, this game is not Diablo 2 and as far as duping is concerned, Diablo 3 has no problems as compared to what D2 had. You could buy/trade items and log in the next day to find them gone because they were duped. Complain all you want, You are the minority.

Blizzard are thiefs

I had bought some items off the AH they created legally and they for no reason suspened my account with reason or cause. Now not only have I wasted the money to buy this game but also for digital gear that I didnt even get to use because I got suspended for no reason. It is sad that they create a auction house for us to use and either ban people or suspend them for using it.

well i dont think its bugged considering blizzard says that the Diablo 3 game has over 10 million players i dont see why 6 players can have close to the same or even the same items , please 6 - 10million + makes me sad that people that people think its a bug also there is this think they call the Auction House so maybe some player saw a good wizard build and decided to check the AH , seriously get real.

You are probably D3 op, who are taking a ride in this forum, to defend what's left of a dieing game. You should maybe put back all the D3 official forum releases of annoyed players, who thrash the Blizzard game, who waited 10 years for a good game, and instead they got D3 cash machine. Blizzard deleted thousands pages of dissatisfied customers who trick themselves for buying the game. There are lot of disappointed souls out there, who bought it and then just put it on the shelf for dust collecting. Lot of players, turned to D2 instead D3, since the game mechanic is much more better in the second part. At the end. Blizzard North was a crew who made D and D2. After their descend, Blizzard put WoW engineers in charge of D3 game, what mistake, and now you have disaster of a game, disappointed people, and they said it will be expansion... Who would buy that, maybe you can sucker people to buy once, but second time around, I seriously doubt that!

So much for them forcing people to have a constant connection to play this game so they could avoid these kinds of problems. Blizzard really dropped the ball with Diablo3. Such a shame.

The items are bought from merchants, some merchants sell rare items, these merchants are RARE merchants

the players then buy hundreds of these, and sell them for 5 times the price on AH, there, Mystery solved.

all you have to do is enter a

all you have to do is enter a game, buy a merchant item and it doesnt disappear from their shop. buy it as many times as you want. pretty sure this still works. cant check the game is down for 1.0.4. this is what people were doing with things like mf rings (if it generated) and they would just buy them up and sell them at a high markup. same with lower lvl gear to get some decent cheap blues for newer chars etc. in essence, its legitimate item duping. l0l
