Microsoft Bans 600000 Modded Xbox 360s From XBLA

A large number - said to be around 600,000 - of Xbox 360 users have been banned from Xbox LIVE after Microsoft detected that they have modded their consoles in order to play pirated games.

"We have taken action against a small percentage of consoles [that] have been modified to play pirated game discs," the company confirmed.

"In line with our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox Live community, we are suspending these modded consoles from Xbox Live."

The banned consoles are still able to play pirated games offline.

Funny how people are laughing at people who mod there xbox...i saved thousands of dollars on not buying all the S#*ty games that were released...i purchased a couple that deserved my support but i've been disappointed with a lot of games that were pumped out and charging 60-70 bucks. Prices are the real crime not piracy.

if microsoft want to stop piracy, maybe they should design a reliable console. who wants to spend all that money on games and accessories, and also their xbox live membership for the 360, for it to die on them when they turn it on. i know several people who have multiple broken 360s. inferior product. shouldnt have even been released until it was fully tested. anybody seen the failure rate on these things? lol
