Microsoft Responds To Sony's Slam On Xbox One Policy Reversals

In the same Gamescom presentation where he announced PlayStation 4 launch date, Sony Computer Entertainment's Andrew House took a slammed Microsoft for its repeated Xbox One policy reversals.

"While others have shifted their message and changed their story, we were consistent in maintaining a message that is fair and in tune with consumer desires," he said.

Responding to Sony's jab, Microsoft Studios head Phil Spencer pointed out that this flexibility is actually a good thing and that it highlights the "two-way conversation we have with our customers."

"Certain people have tried to turn that into something that's a bad thing about what we're trying to do, and I just disagree," he added. "That two-way conversation with gamers has to be core to who we are as a platform. And if we don't have the capability of listening and reacting to what people are saying about our platform, then we're being too disconnected from customers who make investments in our platform and the games we build."

Spencer explained that Xbox One is an ongoing service as much as it is a piece of hardware, so changes are expected and welcomed as long as they don't affect the platform's core experience and philosophy.

"Now, we have a vision, and we've stayed on that vision around the digital ecosystem we want to put on Xbox Live," he said. "It remains a core philosophy. We heard people valued some of the existing generation's disc-based DRM, so we said we're going to add that to the digital ecosystem we're building. It meant some delays in some of the stuff around digital so we could fit in the time to get physical done at launch, but our vision remains the same."

More Drm to come, and Drm based delays for xbox1...

At least thats what i got from the end of the article... "We heard people valued some of the existing generation's disc-based DRM, so we said we're going to add that to the digital ecosystem we're building." so more drm to come. nice just what some people had wished/hoped for. Curious though in this 2 way conversation they speak of, was it the gamers who value drm, cuz im pretty sure we dont. But here I thought they heard us say that already, they did say they were listening right... Maybe we need to speak louder.

Likewise dumbass

Every piece of tech in "Next-gen" consoles are lower end PC components at least a year or two behind the curb in terms of "Architecture" and performance. Shit, most people's video cards cost as much as either of those two consoles. Now get your condescending ass out of here.

Your just fucked in the head

Your just fucked in the head mate. you haven't got a clue. so the apu a10 with 8 core is out yet ? old pc technology my arse. the architecture is the very reason why ps4 is innovative. how many more years before a pc has unified ram? the architecture is what helps it become so much more than a pc of same mghz shit. its more than the sum if its parts and with optimization it will push the entry pc gaming market up a peg which is Jo bad thing.

w8 hold up..... wtf ?

w8 hold up..... wtf ? "While others have shifted their message and changed their story, we were consistent in maintaining a message that is fair and in tune with consumer desires" is this shit coming from FonY? lol could you fuktards at Fony say that after taking away otherOS? you got no right to say that. at least microsoft had done it before the release, thats what i call responding to the consumers. unlike $ony selling ps3's with otherOS, promising to have a console with a pc capabilties. then months later pulls it with a mandatory update. oh btw many ppl did complain to $ony, to have otherOS put back. how did sony respond to it? lets just say it ended with every case thrown outa court. READ THE FACTS that my friends is how $ony responds to their consumers. ur a TOOL to get a piece a shit 4. jus jump on CFW and fuk FonY

Removing it months later??

Removing it months later?? Where the fuck have you been you rim job?----------- The "OtherOS" was removed mid 2010. That makes it 4 years AFTER the PS3 was released. Not a few months. And to be fair, how many people do you know that used the "otherOS" feature? -------- If that is the best attack you have then its probably best you go back and think of something better. ------ For all of the bad shit you can say about the PS3, the 360 will have a shit load more to be condemned over. --------- And watch this space over the XBone. Sooner or later they will reintroduce a fair few of those restrictions they had backtracked on. They just need people to buy the thing first before they do another U-turn. ------ along with Microsofts other failings in the console market, that is the reason why i won't buy one. ----- I don't trust them enough to not do what they say they won't.

>highlights the "two-way

>highlights the "two-way conversation we have with our customers." Sure... In the same way that a rape whistle is a diplomatic negotiation tool during a sexual intercourse proposition. How fucking deluded they must be.

ROFLMAO!!!!

What would anyone expect Micro$hit to have said about it. After they sell as many $hitboxes as they can, they'll flop over again & fuck all yo' dumb asses. ALL YO' DUMB ASSES!!!!! ROFLMAO! ROFLMAO!!!!

Responded but failed to address the issue - TRUST

Responding to Sony's jab, Microsoft Studios head Phil Spencer pointed out that this flexibility is actually a good thing and that it highlights the "two-way conversation we have with our customers." What he means by two-way conversation pretty much goes something like this. "The consumer giving us their money, and us laughing at them for being stupid fucks."

liying twats

Here we go again......we listen to our customers......they shit themselves when the backlash started.with an attitude of ...we are the mighty microsoft .you will do ad we say...as soon as the pre order sales figures came in from retailers showing them flagging behind the ps4.....and the media flac....they dragged out a few spindoctors to spread a load of bullshit.... as an avid xbox live fan.....there lies have done it for me.....2 playstation 4s this november in my household....i hope everyone dumps on microsoft ....they may learn a lesson or not..........

XBOX One

And what will stop them from changing stuff when they released it and you are at home? Seeming as they are not consistent they will change when they sold enough units. Xbox One? Good for trashcan

Consoles don't work the way

Consoles don't work the way you seem to think they do. Companies like microsoft and sony don't make most of their console income from selling the consoles themselves. It comes from services such as netflix and games (which must pay licensing fees to be released on a console). So if they were to reverse their policies after people bought the console they'd risk people setting their xb1's aside and completely ruining microsofts console income for the next decade.
