Microsoft Uses Linux

Netcraft, an Internet services company based in Bath, England, has gathered data which suggest that Microsoft London Internet Data Center distributes Microsoft content in London using Linux servers.

If the data proves to be correct it would suggest that Microsoft's presence on the Internet relies heavily on the open source OS and its reputation as a stable system providing long uptimes. The simple point of this is that Microsoft uses Akamai Technologies' Internet-wide cacheing system to deliver content to surfers. Akamai, in order to provide the best possible service, have chosen to run Linux.

Netcraft spokesman, Mike Prettejohn claims that the cacheing system is used by the biggest and most well-known Web companies. They would have a hard job avoiding Linux, he said. The spokesman also commented on the necessity of using Linux when planning to reliably deliver content over the Internet while claiming that Microsoft do not offer any similar technology.

Microsoft has advanced over the years and I believe XP is a very stable and reliable OS for the average user. I had a linux server that I used on a daily basis and enjoyed it's stability and possibilities. That said stop bitching abd post relevant information.

Most of you are pretty ignorant, there are different things for different purposes when the people that make duck tape use scotchtape nothing is said, thats because it means nothing, and windows xp isnt a bad os, my computers never crashed and I use xp I've had xp sense its been out so thats been a few years of never crashing, I run my computer all the f**king time so if windows xp isnt stable I dunno. I use linux for my private network server yeah its fast yeah its stable but like someone else noted you cant do anything with any one os I dual boot with win xp and linux, I do use linux for some stuff that windows cant do and use windows for what linux cant use. I just dont get why you guys make a big deal out of something like that

Anyways... just to get back on subject, guys! I am a user of both linux and Windows. I have used every windows since 95 so I know how well they perform. I have to admit that windows 2000 and XP are a step ahead of the others, but linux is quite powerfull. It is used widely for servers because of this. I would not be surprised is Microsoft would design an OS that resembles linux (in terms of the kernel) in order to get the best of both worlds (powerful server capabilities and wide range of application support).

everyone disses microsoft, mainly because of the monopoly they hold over every market they set their sights on. yet they still use it, because its easy, convinient, and it does what you need. i think you would find that anyone running linux is also running windows emulators so that linux thinks it can support games as well as linux does. both have their advantages and disadvantages, and m$ comes out way in front in my opinion. the main point of linux that makes it good is that it provides oposition and an alternative to m$, but unless you are a hacker or a server, for the moment windows xp pro is the best way to go. all those who wish to say otherwise, underneath your comment state what os you are running.
