Microsoft: Xbox One Isn't Designed To Function Vertically

Believing that Xbox One's reputation is not bad enough yet, Microsoft senior director of product management and planning for Xbox, Albert Panello, announced that the company's next-gen console is not designed to function when laid out vertically.

The limitation is due to the slot-based design of the console's disc drive. According to Panello, Xbox 360 disc drive could operate in both orientations because of its tray, which is no longer used in Xbox One's.

"We don't support vertical orientation; do it at your own risk," he said. "It wouldn't be a cooling problem, we just didn't design the drive for vertical. Because it's a slot loading drive, we just didn't design it for both."

Interestingly, devices such as PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Wii feature slot-based disc drives that operate both vertically and horizontally.

Panello believes that there is nothing to worry about. After all, "we found, interestingly enough, that 80 percent of people, believe it or not, have their Xbox [360] horizontally."

The remaining 20% can simply go f**k themselves.

Which is better

My my, Strike one, ps1, xbox much much better, Strike 2 ps2, 360 older hardware but every game faster better on 360! So strike 3, will sony finally pull ahead, the odds are nope, Truth hurts I no but we americans invented everything, That means were better at everything! LOL

Sad little redness ****.

Sad little redness ****. xbox wasn't even out when ps1 dominated. ps2 dominated xbox with inferior hardware. PS3 not so good but still has beaten xbox 360, in fact if we were to remove the 360 rrod unit replacements Ps3 would have again dominated. so were.on to round three and xbox one is totally inferior with awkward esram. **** even in America it doesn't appear to be the console of pre order choice. as for.America been best lol even your consoles aren't made there!

I have my 360 vertically, it

I have my 360 vertically, it's the only way I have space for it - why would the slot loading drive be a limitation? My Macbook's slot loading drive works perfectly vertically, as well as the blu-ray one in my htpc case. So, is it just a poor quality drive, or what?

You ******* Sony fanboy Sony

You ******* Sony fanboy Sony is ***** always have been always will be one day you will wake up and realise this you ******. Everyone keeps going on about how the ps4 is more powerfull if you remember the ps3 is more pwoerfull then the 360 but yet the game look better on 360 it will be the same this time round and as for having your console vertical its just a gimmick that Sony started with ps3 why would you want your console vertical so it can get knocked over and **** the disc that's in it. And as for the 360 being rubish ive had mine since it came out and never had a problem with it. But the ps3 i had lasted 2 weeks before it died so Sony replaced it and the new one done the same thing 3 weeks later Sony are ****

Now he is a sony fanboy just

Now he is a sony fanboy just cause he said Microsoft is ****? He could be a Wii or PC fanboy for all we know. And on the side, the PS4 wont have the tricky cell architecture, both PS4 and Xbox One has same architecture, so yes, it actully comes down who has more under the hood, and that is PS4 hands down. But we wont see difference in games released on both consoles cause graphics will only be good as the weakest link (xbox one in this case). And no, I am no fanboy and wont be getting me a console.
