Believing that Xbox One's reputation is not bad enough yet, Microsoft senior director of product management and planning for Xbox, Albert Panello, announced that the company's next-gen console is not designed to function when laid out vertically.
The limitation is due to the slot-based design of the console's disc drive. According to Panello, Xbox 360 disc drive could operate in both orientations because of its tray, which is no longer used in Xbox One's.
"We don't support vertical orientation; do it at your own risk," he said. "It wouldn't be a cooling problem, we just didn't design the drive for vertical. Because it's a slot loading drive, we just didn't design it for both."
Interestingly, devices such as PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Wii feature slot-based disc drives that operate both vertically and horizontally.
Panello believes that there is nothing to worry about. After all, "we found, interestingly enough, that 80 percent of people, believe it or not, have their Xbox [360] horizontally."
The remaining 20% can simply go f**k themselves.
