NES Remix Contest Canceled Due To Exploit Use

In a classic case of "a few drops poisoning the well," a time attack contest for NES Remix was cancelled after a bunch of players utilized an exploit to decrease their times.

Had the contest not been canceled, the winner should've had his time officially recorded by Nintendo. Unfortunately, this was not possible after finding out that some players used an exploit to decrease their times.

"In the interest of being as fair as possible, we decided to terminate the event without recognizing the fastest time," said the game's director, Koichi Hayashida. "We sincerely apologize for this matter, particularly because the vast majority of people played fairly."

The exploit in question involves pausing and resuming the continuously to take advantage of a slight delay between when the game resumes and the timer clock resumes.
