Also, consider the fact that the information about the NV40 being the NV45 was posted on here by someone who said the NV40 would only be paper if they released it anytime soon acording to their informant.

"Show me your source...""They have no sources. They are gasping for air that there amazing radeon might not be king this time around...."[url removed] your source. And here's another too about the so-called 16x1 pipeline...[url removed] was telling people how 3DMark01 is a very nice benchmark since they can render 16 pixels per pass in it, using only eight pipelines."All this, when Nvidia stated that 3dmarks and Futuremarks and other benchmarks were "useless" and did not represent real world gaming. Oh how hypocritical.

Raid, all I know is that benchmarks (run by THG) have shown that for the same card running in an 8x port there is a minimal (and in many cases almost ZERO) difference in performance than in a 4x port. From that one could deduce that the full memory bandwidth is not being utilised at 8x. Why this is so is beyond me, but the crux of my argument is that it is somewhat silly to make a leap to a new, UNPROVEN interface (there are no pure PCI-express cards out yet, and there wont be for a while) when there is still potential in AGP.I've got nothing against PCI-Express. It's got plenty of potential. BUT the difference in performance in the short term at least is going to be minimal (if noticeable at all). THG has a very good article on PCI-Express:[url removed] is certainly the way of the futre........but I'm going to wait for video cards to catch up first.

Heheheh ATidiots are crappin in their pants. To the guy below me, the NV40 WILL have a 32x0 pipeline card for Doom3. And not only nVIDIA is saying that. That's why ATi got the lame Half-Life2 instead."I suggest that fastest card for Doom 3 will be NV40 because of its pipeline number and what Nvidia calls 32x0" - Fuad A, The Inquirer.

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

Man f**k Doom 3, HL-2 is the shit. In every f**king poll HL-2 is more anticipated than Doom 3. Plus ID said that they wiil not give vouchers for Doom3 to Nvidia so shut the f**k up, realistically NV40 is 8X2 design while R420 is 12x1.

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

Buh... good article but like they say in the article... no ones really know how it will perform since its not out yetand from what ive seen... i think PCI Express will rock... the way it communicate with the processor make it quicker and now video card will try to get all the extra bandwith they can get (i sound like a noob here hehe )i know it wont be a drastic change right away... but that, i think, is marketing shit so they will release it power little by little untill they use it full powerbut nice article

For Anonymous. The 32x0 pipeline theory. IS FROM NVIDIA. And we all know what that means. As for the 16x1? The card is really only 8x2. ATI's card is 12x1. The NV40 only mimics 16x1 in compatible games like DOOM3 and 3dmarks2001, 2003. At the cost of IQ. Too bad for Nvidia that games will not all be made using the DOOM3 engine. What a joke. Sound familiar?Sounds like the NV30 to me all over again. The NV30 said to have 8x1 pipes. Then we all found out that it only was a 4x2 pipeline card. Now this? PLEASE. You Nvidiots will believe ANYTHING Nvidia's P.R. department spews.Even read the article in Megagames about this. Even though this is old news now. 32x0...RIGHTTTTTTT.

Man this is just typical, why argue all the time, its like when you make write the message Intel VS. AMDWhy not be happy that you can chose the one you like at a price who is possible to pay, if there was only one big company like ATI then the prices would be sky highGood fight, good night

This is from Toms Hardware:"ATi kept quiet last month after NVIDIA launched its very impressive GeForce 6800 Ultra and the NV40 graphics processor that will become the foundation for NVIDIA product lines in the future. Indeed, information about the Canadian company's latest design was a rare commodity. The inevitable rumors about ATi's design pervaded chat rooms on the Internet, many of which cited "reliable" sources and ended up transforming misinformation into outlandish fairytales.Today, ATi introduces its new line of high-end graphics cards, called the Radeon X800. This family of cards is based on ATi's youngest graphics processor core, codenamed R420. The "X" in the product name may raise hopes of DirectX 10 support or something of the sort, but this is not the case. Instead, the X stands for the Roman numeral 10. It seems that after the Radeon 9800 line, ATi simply ran out of product numbers within the 9xxx range that would sufficiently differentiate the new card. So, the logical next step was to bump up the product number. Besides, the leading number of the product name has not always been an indicator of a card's features. As you may recall, the Radeon 9000 and 9200 only supported DirectX 8.1 in hardware, for example. From a technological perspective, the new R420 core seems to bring only moderate improvements. Instead of taking NVIDIA's route and implementing new DirectX features such as the Shader Model 3.0, ATi has instead chosen to further optimize, improve and scale the tried and true R3xx architecture. The recipe is simple - more vertex shaders, more and improved pixel shader units, as well as small tweaks and improvements to the memory controller and the FSAA implementation. R420 offers only one real new feature, which is support for Normal Map compression, called 3Dc.While the company is not pushing the envelope with respect to features, ATi remains true to its historical course performance-wise. ATi promises that the top model X800 XT

n 2 think some n00b said even if they announced it soon, it'd just b paper work. It's not even just a working chip, it's a working chipset!!! A whole damn board!!! I also hava hunch they'll announce nForce3 250 4 some reason, dunno y. Then it rly wud b gr8 time 2 go 64-bit.

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

Well its good to hear that Nvidia are back on track.... I hope. The fx architecture sucked, my 9600XT shits all over the 5700 Ultra, and arguably the 5900... but man i love Nvidia drivers and layout, and i used to own a Georce 4 MX440 and it served me well... Also is is true that the NV40 will have 220million transistors??

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

At least one version of it will, they are bringing out versions that have different features. As of yet, we dont know which version will have 220mil and if another version may have more or less.

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

This is always the see-saw battle. The NV40 will sport 16 pipelines(We hope) The R420 will sport 12-16 pipelines(we hope) And who ever wins, the real battle comes 6 months after that with the refresh chips. Which begs me to ask: What will Nvidia do then since they canned the NV40 and went with the NV45 and the 16 pipeline design? Because you know ATI will refresh with a 16 pipeline chip with more clock speed for the refresh. Oh the battle goes on. Which is good for all us consumers...

QUOTE FROM THE NEWS " on custom NVIDIA gaming machines powered by the NV40 GeForce GPU. "yeah they gonna make their LAN party on 64bit processor, P4 3.4GHZ 2gig of RAM on PCI xpress with some RAID SCSI HDD and they gonna yellLOOK HOW GOOD OUR CARD IS (and gonna wisper... " must use a supersonic PC"LOLGOOD WAR ;)

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

I'm running on a 1.5ghz 128 mb radeon 9200 768 ram and all my games work very decently... all that hype for new cards when you dont really need them for now, games dont even fully use agp 8x yet.

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

It's true about the 8x agp, all games run fine on 4x, and i bet most with decent hardware could fun on 2x, just might take a long time to load maps (precache textures), well i'm currently molesting nvidia on the net, finding nv 40 info, trieng to find illegal benchmarks ect, hope it turns out good.

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

Just in my friends, the NV40 will not feature a 16x1 design but a 8x2. Just in at The Inquirer. However they say that games that do use PS 3.0, will run as if the NV40 has full 16 pixel pipeline. Too bad since there will be only 1 to 2 games that support PS 3.0 this year most probably next.

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

pci express is just is peace of crap it is marketing strategy fo you to buy new motherboards newest video cards do not even use full potential of agp 4x not even talking about 8x.also nvidia wont use pure pci express. cards will have bridge. atis however will be pure pci express. still there will be no difrence as onlly after 4-5 years all the curent potential of pci express will be used.and also 5900xt is better than 9600xt see benchmarks on toms hardware, i had 9600xt exchanged to 5900xt and i am playing halo with 50% higher fps.talking about new nvidia chip ;), i think ati will win this one. but that is just my opinion.

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

More crap from Nvidia. More lies. The NV40 will not sport a true 16 pipeline card. Just 8x2. And only support P.S.3.0 which like the post below, only 1 or 2 games will support by X-MAS.[url removed] was telling people how 3DMark01 is a very nice benchmark since they can render 16 pixels per pass in it, using only eight pipelines. What Nvidia is using is the ability of the Vertex Shader model 3.0 (known as PS 3.0 or VS 3.0) where the Shader can actually render pixels as a virtual pipeline. But it can only render them without filtering information other than Point Sampling, a basic filter technique."WOW. What bullshit Nvidia.

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

CAspara i think you dont know SHIT about PCI-eXpress... have you seen it architecture? And 5900FX is supposed to be compare to an ATI 9800 XT and guess what... yeah!! 9800 is better then 5900!!So just Shut up

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

Raid, you are in the wrong about PCI-express. Casparas is right, cards right now arent even using the full memory bandwidth offered at AGP 4x, let alone 8x. So with PCI-express you may have plenty of bandwith, but most of it WONT even be used, at least not for several years. AGP is far from dead, and let's face it - changing your motherboard just for the sake of a video card is just plain STUPID. In fact, that very issue was raised at the latest IDF if i'm not mistaken. Plus the AGP 3.0 architecture will certainly breathe new life into AGP.....with the potential for motherboards to have two or more AGP ports.

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

this is just cash for nvidia cos loons will go and buy anything for status. upgrading from 5900 to 5950 and up, lining with corporate fat cats pockets with gold. No doubt Microsoft will release a new version of directx in a couple of months again reducing all those expensive cards to scrap silicone. Then once they get you to upgrade again they change the port to pci express, then something new a couple of months later. They're just varying the cut like a drug dealer.

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

Buhthe way pci express work with the processor is different... have you really seen it architecture??just tell me why cards arent using the full memory bandwith offered on AGP 4x... whats the reason// then we ll continue the debate

nVidia NV40 Launch Set

It doesn't matter even if the NV40 does use PS 3.0, with 6 vertex sharder engines the R420 will dominate the sharder war again. ATI stuck with PS 2.0 because that is all the R420 will be faced with in it's life time PS 2.0+ games. No doubt they ATI has improved their image quality 100% with the R420. So basically what I am saying is both the NV40 and R420 will be compared using games that run PS 2.0, obliviously ATI will have the advantage in game benchmarks because the R420 supports heavily modified PS 2.0, while Nvidia is struggling with PS 3.0 when there are no games to support it.
