Redout could be the next Wipeout

Redout could be the next Wipeout

It's been a long, long time since Wipeout was the king of anti-gravity racers - it even made an early appearance in the 1995 film Hackers if you remember - and sadly there seems no sign of it making a big resurgence. However a new game Redout, could well scratch that itch for anti-gravity racing and make that style of racer popular once again.

It's recently launched on Steam and is doing very well indeed, landing solid reviews and user comments from the community and it's only getting bigger.

It's an extremely fast paced game, leaving your eyes bleeding after too long behind the digital wheel, but that's what people want from these sorts of games: to feel like they can barely see what's going on and yet just about keep their hovering rocket straight.

Here's some footage of the Kotaku team playing through one of the more popular, early tracks. There's power ups in there, medals to earn, jumps to survive and of course many enemies to beat. It's all in a rather low-poly style, which isn't that common in today's gaming landscape.

Do you like the look of it?

Redout is currently available on Steam for $32.
