Report: Nintendo Postponed NX To Push In VR Support

Nintendo's upcoming console, the Nintendo NX, was originally meant to be released halfway through 2016 before it got moved back to March 2017. Chinese newspaper, DIGITIMES, reports that Nintendo decided to delay the NX only to push in VR support at the last moment.

The only solid piece of info we have so far about the NX is that it is a "brand new concept" that is not meant to replace neither the Wii U nor the 3DS. DIGITIMES was able to get more info from "sources from the related upstream supply chain" who asserted that the NX "combines the video gaming experience with the mobile gaming experience." DIGITIMES' sources claimed that the NX can be used as a handheld with a 5 to 7 inches display and it can be connected to a TV and used as a traditional console. Reportedly, the NX also ships with a gamepad and a joystick.

The Chinese sources also reported that Nintendo originally planned to produce 20 million units of the NX during its first year in market, before downscaling their production plans to around 10 million units. The sources believe that this reduction was fueled by Wii U's lackluster market performance.
