Rockstar responds to Social Club hack claims

Despite many members of Rockstar's Social Club claiming over the past week or so that their account had been compromised and that details of their login had been leaked online, Rockstar didn't have much in the way of an initial response until today, where it essentially denied that any hack or compromise of its services has taken place.

Instead, it suggests that another site was responsible and that logins posted on sites like pastebin were merely the result of people re-using emails and passwords on multiple services.

"As confirmed yesterday, the Rockstar Games Social Club has not been compromised. However, it appears that attempts have been made to access user accounts using email and password combinations from an unaffiliated, compromised website or database elsewhere on the internet," it said in a statement to Kotaku.

"For the accounts affected, we are in the process of reverting those accounts back to their original owners. As a reminder, it is a good policy to ensure that the Rockstar Games Social Club account username and password is not shared across multiple websites on the internet."

So people, the cat's out of the bag. Change your password and stop reusing it on different services. It's just bad form.
