PS3 Not Downgraded Says Sony

Description
Sony has trashed a recent report which claimed that the PS3 hardware specs would have to be downgraded due to overheating concerns. The Japanese company has suggested that it has the experience and track record to be able to deliver on the specs promised.

The report, one of many lately suggesting that the PS3 will be somehow crippled, had suggested that Sony was having problems fitting all of the PS3 components into the case without causing overheating. As a result, the story concluded, Sony would have to lower specs in order to fit everything in and keep temperatures to within operational limits. The story had claimed that the CELL speed would have to be reduced to 2.8 GHz from the advertised 3.2 GHz. The source for the story had claimed, the current designs, despite having vents all over the place, apparently still can't dissipate the heat to sufficient levels.

A Sony spokesperson has claimed that the story is... categorically not true and has added that making a decision to downgrade the hardware at this late stage in development would be ridiculous. Once that was out of the way the Sony representative added that the company has 40 years of manufacturing experience and sneered at the notion that fitting components into a plastic box could cause a problem.

As a final blow to all rumor-mongers out there the Sony representative had to mention that the company did rather well with its previous console and that alone should provide a hint that things will go well this time round too.
