Sony Admits PSN Is Losing

During an interview with Reuters Japan, Sony Computer Entertainment President Kaz Hirai admitted that the Playstation Network is still "in the red" money-wise and that he expects it to "enter the black" during the next fiscal year.

According to the report, Sony's PSN accumulated 36 billion yen (around $434.3 million) in fiscal 2009 and "almost double" that amount in fiscal 2010. Hirai hopes that the service will start turning profit in fiscal 2011 and expects it to sell upwards of 300 billion yen ($3.6 billion) during 2012.

To back his claims, Hirai noted that the number of registered PSN users has reached 60 million as of November 2010.

pointless

I noticed that they removed my post after i said that PSN has massive cheaters online, who don't, wait PC don't HA! when played on real servers. PUNK BUSTERS BITCH!. After i seen what players do at my friends house, it made me not want a ps3 because i play online 90%of the time. Cheating = you suck, if you are going to play in god mode then what is the point playing at all, where is the fun in that. And besides its the price that gets me WTF its 2 much for nothing, just a gaming console with cheep parts reinvented.

Reason why.

Its because of the number of massive cheaters on PSN. I do not own a ps3 because of the that reason, I have seen people cheat online like crazy and only few that play honestly. That is why I will always stay with PC gaming. (On real servers). And no i do not suck at games, its obvious when a the other player cheats any fool can tell.

Only to last comment that was far out of line!!!

As a member of the GAP Gamer Adviser Panel of Playstation that comment is un called for and is not warrented. and i ask that Megagames removes the comment.

Now on to the other stuff, The sales of the PS3 and PSN network service is due to rise mainly for the simple fact that PS3 has a built in blue ray, movie network and other forms of networks. such as facebook and web.

The other side is the Dev companys are going to start using the Blueray and its extra space over the Xbox to make games only for PS3 this will start drawing in the gamers from other consoles as more games will start to draw out on to the pS3 only.

I also think the price of the Ps3 is over due and will drop maybe another 50 to 100$ US. this will boost the sales of the ps3 to a all time high. and slowy bring in more and more sales over anything else.

Just my bottom cents...

GAP = a joke

"GAP Gamer Adviser Panel of Playstation" = lol

The point of the article is true. PSN is in the red. If you cant handle the truth. Then tough luck buddy. The days of Sony raining over the console market as a whole, is over. While the blu ray sector will continue to grow. the games division will not have sales like Xbox division or Nintendo. And to requesting that megagames take down articles. Only because it does not suit your fanboy vision of Sony's ps3 love joy. Is the most ridicules posted comment on any board. I bet there is Sony supporters out there face plating them salves right about now. Co's I know I am. So You buddy get the award for 2010. well done /s

So basically he hopes ps3

So basically he hopes ps3 sales will keep going as they are now (or even keep growing at the same pace) until 2012. Unless he's got some ace up his sleeve that sounds rather optimistic as no actual data has been shown to support such a thing.

Note: I'm not bashing anything (this is mere speculation and logic), so fanboys please keep to yourselves. Constructive input is, of course, welcome.
